Mahindra is set to introduce Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) technology in upcoming 2024 model of the Thar. The upcoming Mahindra Thar, expected to be launched in August 2024, is likely to be equipped with a suite of ADAS features, marking a significant upgrade in the vehicle’s safety profile.
The ADAS suite in the new Thar is expected to include features such as Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Keep Assist, Automatic Emergency Braking, Smart Pilot Assist, Driver Drowsiness Detection, and Traffic Sign Recognition. These features aim to enhance the driving experience by providing assistance in various driving conditions, thereby improving overall road safety.
The inclusion of ADAS in the Thar was hinted at by recent sightings of test models, which revealed a camera near the Interior Rear-view Mirror (IRVM), a typical location for ADAS camera setup.
In addition to the ADAS suite, the 2024 Thar is set to come with updated safety features such as six airbags, a 360-degree camera, front parking sensors, and all-disc brakes.
On the technology front, the upcoming Thar will be equipped with a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a fully digital instrument cluster, a rear centre armrest, a sunroof, and dual-zone AC. These features aim to provide a comfortable and engaging driving experience.
The 2024 Thar will continue to use the same set of engine options as the outgoing model. These include a 2.0-litre petrol engine (150 bhp and 300 Nm) and a 2.2-litre diesel unit (129 bhp and 300 Nm). Both engines will be paired with 6-speed manual and 6-speed torque converter automatic gearboxes. It will also have a choice of rear-wheel drive and 4-wheel drive options.
The 2024 Thar and the 5-Door Thar Armada are hinted to be coming on August 15, 2024. Upon launch, they will rival the Maruti Suzuki Jimny and Force Gurkha and the recently launched Gurkha 5-door.
