2024 BMW Motorrad R 1300 GS adventure bike revealed

BMW Motorrad has revealed the 2024 BMW R 1300 GS. The adventure tourer is now more lighter, compact and packs in more technology than before as well.

What’s new in the 2024 BMW R 1300 GS?

For starters, the major update is the new boxer engine. This 1,300cc unit develops 145 HP @ 7,750 rpm and 149 Nm @ 6,500 rpm. Compared to the outgoing model, this is 9 HP and 6 Nm more. BMW has also said that despite the increase in displacement, the new engine is more compact than the previous one. This is in turn thanks to the placement of the gearbox underneath the engine.

Visually, the asymmetrical headlight is now gone and replaced with an all-LED unit. In terms of looks, the bike is now sleeker and looks less bulky. The rear tail section now appears to be more slender, while the pillion seat is smaller and less flat too.

Hardware of 2024 BMW R 1300 GS

The BMW R 1300 RS is 12 kg lighter. This is due to the updated 19-litre aluminium fuel tank, die-cast aluminium rear subframe and more. This has resulted in better power-to-weight as well as an improved riding experience thanks to lower weight and higher power output.

In terms of hardware, the suspension gets an upgrade with new components. However, BMW is using the same signature telelever front fork and paralever rear suspension. Further, the sheet metal steel frame is now claimed to be stiffer as well.

Technology on the BMW R 1300 GS

There are now four riding modes – Rain, Ride, Eco and Enduro. Further, the rider benefits from a colour TFT display that is Bluetooth compatible.

BMW is also offering radar-based safety features. These include Active Cruise Control, Front Collision Warning and Lane Change Warning.

Optional extras include electronically adjustable suspension. However, the updated Dynamic Suspension Adjustment now adjusts the spring stiffness as well depending on the selected riding mode and other predetermined conditions. Owners can also spec the bike with adaptive vehicle height – this automatically adjusts the height of the motorcycle depending on the conditions.
