The stage is set for Toyota’s next big product unveil in India, and this is said to be the 2023 Innova Hycross. While the event invite asks us to gear up for the ‘New Hy’ on 25/11/2022, an image has leaked on the internet which gives us a clear look at this upcoming Toyota Innova Hycross / Zenis. Compared to the current Innova Crysta, this Toyota Innova Hycross / Zenis looks like a big step up in design language, and we must add, this product does look aspirational. Abroad, this vehicle will debut a few days ahead of the Indian unveil event, and will be called the Innova Zenix. In India, this product will be branded as the Toyota Innova Hycross. Will the current Innova Crysta co-exist with this Innova Hycross? We’ll have to wait and watch…
2023 Toyota Innova Hycross Styling:
As you can clearly see from this leaked image, the Toyota Innova Hycross / Zenis has a more SUV-like design language as opposed to the current Innova’s MPV silhouette. Given the rising demand for SUVs worldwide, it doesn’t come as a surprise that this loved family car is also taking design cues from the hot-selling segment.
Features as seen from the leaked image includes a big trapezoidal front grille with chrome surround, front skid plate, split bumper design, horizontal LED DRL on the bumper section, front fog lamps above the skid plate in the air dam section, possible full LED headlamp setup, flatter high bonnet design, prominent crease lines on the bonnet, multi-spoke alloy wheels, blacked out B & C pillar, chrome / dark chrome finish around the DLO section, chrome door handles, body cladding all around, turn indicators on the mirror, possible 360-degree camera setup, prominent wheel arches and wrap around tail lamps.
The rear profile and interior cabin is not to be seen in all its glory as of now, so there’s still some mystery around it. However, previous spyshots have revealed quite a few details.
Toyota Innova Hycross Underpinnings:
Toyota’s new Innova Hycross / Zenis will be built on the advanced TNGA platform, and will be a front-wheel-drive vehicle primarily. The old Innova with it’s rear-wheel-drive layout had quite a few fanboys though. Rumours so far have suggested that the Innova Hycross / Zenis will be powered by two 2.0L petrol engines and the lower trims will get a naturally-aspirated motor only while the more expensive variants will get a petrol + strong hybrid combination. The big news however is that there won’t be a diesel engine option with the Innova Hycross / Zenis. Toyota Innova’s winning formula was the reliable diesel motor, and we’ll have to wait and watch how the market responds to this gasoline-only variant list.
