The much-awaited Toyota of the year is here. The company has finally taken the wraps off the all-new Innova Zenix in Indonesia. This new Innova will debut in India later this week as the Innova Hycross. As per sources, we understand the India Innova Hycross is pretty much identical to the Innova Zenix. Thus we can make up and get a clear idea about what we will get from the SUV.
The new Innova measures 4,755mm in length and 1,850mm in width. These figures are both more than the Innova Crysta. Although the height remains the same at 1,795mm. As far as the wheelbase goes, the new model is longer by 100mm. Thus it now measures 2,850mm as opposed to the 2,750mm of its predecessor. The newer model does get shorter overhangs, but the longer wheelbase helps liberate more room on the inside. Toyota has also maintained the exact 185mm ground clearance. In fact, the approach and departure angles are also the same as that of the Innova Crysta.
With the new Innova’s design, the car now looks less MPV and more SUV-ish. When viewed from up front, Toyota has retained the typical Innova look. Hence, as an overall design, the new Innova is still pretty much an Innova. On the front, we see an upright nose with a large hexagonal grille finished in contrast black with chrome surrounds. The wide front bumper has a unique air intake in the centre. These further merge with triangular units on each corner, which, in turn, hold the wide, horizontal LED daytime running lamps on higher variants. We also see faux aluminium bits neatly positioned on each corner of the bumper.
Moving on to the sides, we see two distinctive creases run across the length of the doors. Both of these neatly merges with the wraparound tail lamps. The use of bigger alloy wheels has a design that looks premium and gives the new Innova a new look.
Similar to the exterior, the new Innova’s interior also gets a host of changes. The dashboard design is completely new and gets a twin-layer set-up. This helps in liberating more space for the driver and front passenger. While the dashboard looks unique, the centre console, steering wheel and fully digital instrument cluster (on top-end hybrids) are similar to the one seen on the latest-gen Toyota Voxy MPV.
The dashboard and aircon vents get a silver finish, thus adding to the premium touch. One key highlight of the interiors is the 10-inch floating touchscreen. Just to confirm, the lower variants get a 9-inch touchscreen and an analogue instrument cluster featuring a smaller 4.2-inch multi-info display.
Higher variants will benefit from a dual-tone interior with leather seats finished in Dark brown (mocha) and an all-black theme. Depending on the variant, Innova Hycross will most likely come with 7- and 8-seat configurations.
As per the 2022 norm, the new Innova Hycross gets a host of features, more than ever before. Higher variants benefit from full-LED headlamps, LED daytime running lamps, a panoramic sunroof, wireless charging, ambient lighting, faux wood, a 360-degree camera and aluminium finish on the interior, second-row captain seats with ottoman function, and quilted leather seats among others. Interestingly the top variants in Indonesia also get dual 10-inch screens for second-row passengers.
Following the norm, the new Innova Hycross also gets ADAS tech. With this, the SUV gets features like Adaptive Cruise Control and Lane Keeping Assist. Additionally, the new Innova also gets a host of safety features. This includes multiple airbags, three-point seatbelts for all passengers, ABS and EBD and more. Noteworthy to mention, the Innova Hycross also gets four-wheel disc brakes for all variants.
The Innova Hycross will most likely use a 2.0-litre petrol engine. This engine will be paired with fifth-gen strong hybrid tech. This engine, like seen in Toyota hybrid units, uses an Atkinson or Miller cycle for greater efficiency. The performance ratings of the motor read as 152 BHP and 187 Nm. And when coupled to an electric motor, the combined power output stands at 186 HP.
Additionally, Toyota will also introduce a non-hybrid version with the same 1987 cc engine (M20A-FKS). This will churn out 174 HP and 197 Nm. We understand Toyota will use a CVT gearbox with this. Although, there is no word on a manual gearbox on offer on any variant as of now.
The Innova Hycross is being built in Toyota’s plant in Bidadi, India. As per sources, Innova Hycross will have more premium pricing when compared to Innova Crysta. Thus we are expecting the SUV to retail in the range somewhere between INR 22 lakh to INR 28 lakh, ex-showroom.
