2023 Tata Tiago EV Review

Tata Motors has been strong on the EV front. They already have the Nexon EV, Tigor EV hence, the logical launch after that was the Tiago EV. But Tata has gone one step ahead and surprised us by launching the lowest-priced electric vehicle in the market. The price for the Tiago EV starts at INR 8.49 lakh and goes all the way upto INR 11.29 lakh, which is quite an attractive price for an entry level electric vehicle.

The introductory price was first said to be limited for 10,000 customers, but Tata went ahead and extended this introductory price for all customers. Tata has offered a choice of two battery options. The first one is a 19.2 kWh unit with a claimed range of 250 km and a 24 kWh pack with a claimed range of 315 km on a single charge. The Tiago EV is powered by an electric motor located at the front. This motor generates 60 BHP and 110 Nm of peak torque in the 19.2 kWh battery version. The 24 kWh battery version gets slightly better performance numbers of 74 BHP and 114 Nm.  The numbers might seem low, but remember that an EV generates its peak torque from zero rpm, making progress from a standstill brisk.

One of the selling points of the Tiago EV is the fact that it looks like a normal car. Many customers have already commented on the Tiago’s design and have mentioned that they like it. For higher EV adoption, it is necessary to get a design that is familiar to the car buyer and not something out of the blue. That said, Tata has ensured some minor touches to ensure that the Tiago EV stands apart from the regular Tiago. These include exclusive paint shades for the EV, blue accent below the grille and ‘.ev’ badges on the side fenders and grille.

Other features on the car include telematics as standard on all trims, upto 45 connected car features, leatherette seats, a contrast roof, fully automatic climate control, projector auto headlamps, rain-sensing wipers, and cruise control. Another plus point is that the Tiago scored 4-stars in the GNCAP crash tests. The Tiago EV is based on the same platform and likely to score the same.
