2023 Tata Safari & Harrier facelift get 5-Star Global NCAP safety rating

Tata’s latest SUVs have been tested by the Global NCAP. Both the Safari and Harrier secured 33.05 points for adult occupant safety and 45 points for child occupant safety. Thus, the SUVs scored a 5-star rating. Thus, the result makes these Tata SUVs the highest rated Indian cars in Global NCAP tests.

Details of the NCAP Crash Test

In terms of safety tests, the Harrier and Safari were found to offer good protection to both the driver and passenger’s neck and head. Furthermore, the chests of the driver and passenger dummies’ showed adequate protection. Meanwhile the knees showed good protection. The driver’s tibias were rated at adequate while the passenger tibias were rated at good protection. Both the SUVs were seen to have stable footwell area and body shell.

In the side impact tests all the vulnerable regions like the head, chest, abdomen and pelvis were well protected. In the side pole test, the standard curtain airbags were shown to offer good protection to the head and pelvis, marginal protection to the chest and adequate protection to the abdomen.

Incase of younger occupants, the 3-year old dummy’s child seat offered full protection in the front impact test by preventing head exposure. Similarly, the 18-month-old dummy was also able to prevent head exposure and thus offered full protection.

Safety features on the Tata Harrier and Safari

The standard safety features on the two Tata SUVs included dual front airbags, side head curtain airbags, and side chest airbags.Features like 3-point seat belts with pre-tensioners and load limiters, seat belt reminder, ESC and ISOFIX were also standard fitment.

Powertrain of the Tata Harrier and Safari

Both the Harrier and Safari facelift continue to use the same 2.0-litre Fiat-sourced 4-cylinder diesel engine. This unit develops 168 BHP and 350 Nm. The engine is offered with a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic transmission.
