Tata has forayed into the premium hatchback CNG segment with the popular Altroz. The 2023 Tata Altroz iCNG comes with an innovative dual cylinder technology that allows the car to have some usable boot space. Further, the spare tyre is mounted under the car allowing a neater packaging which liberated more boot space as well.
Earlier in 2023, Tata had showcased the Altroz CNG at the Auto Expo in Greater Noida. Thanks to twin-cylinder technology, the Altroz CNG uses dual 30-litre cylinders instead of a single larger tank as is the norm. The Indian carmaker has also added CNG specific features like single ECU with seamless shift from petrol to CNG mode or CNG to petrol and first start in CNG. Other safety features include thermal protection, gas leak detection and the engine shut off when refuelling.
The top-spec XZ(O)+S variant comes with a reverse camera with guidelines, auto headlamps, rear for lamp, height adjustable driver’s seat, 8-speaker audio system, connected car features like app-based remote vehicle control, wireless charging etc. Customers can also opt for a sunroof on some variants of the Altroz iCNG. Some other features of the Tata Altroz iCNG include Apple CarPlay and Android Auto enabled 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system, steering mounted controls, What3words navigation, voice activated features, electrically folding ORVMs, and front and rear USB ports to name a few.
In terms of powertrain options, the Tata Altroz CNG is powered by a 1.2-litre, 3-cylinder petrol engine. This naturally aspirated motor develops 76 HP and 103 Nm when running on CNG and 84 BHP / 113 Nm on petrol mode. This engine has been paired with a 5-speed manual gearbox.
Coming to the price, the Tata Altroz iCNG starts from INR 7,55,400 (ex-showroom). Customers will be able to select the car colour from a choice of Opera Blue, Downtown Red, Arcade Grey and Avenue White.
