At a special event in New York, Nissan unveiled the new 2023 Nissan Z sports car in the US. The new Nissan Z becomes the seventh-generation Z with more than 50 years of legacy. Nissan also revealed that the Z sports car is scheduled to go on sale in the United States market from spring 2022. Also, the brand reveals that more than 1.8 million Zs are sold to date, making it a global top-selling sports car.
In 1969, a Japanese global top-selling sports car, the Datsun 240Z, debuted in New York City. Drawing inspiration from the 240Z, the brand announced that Nissan will also launch a special Proto Spec edition in a limited-production run of just 240 units. The Z Proto pays homage to the first-generation Z (S30) and the 300ZX (Z32) and comes with a bright pearlescent yellow exterior paint. The brand will also offer Sport and Performance grade levels on the 2023 Nissan Z.
Powering the Nissan Z is a VR30DDTT 3.0-litre twin-turbocharged V6 engine. The Aluminium Block/Head engine comes with the front-engined rear-wheel-drive philosophy. The engine also comes with Electronic Variable Valve Timing Control (E-VVT). The motor also gets a micro-finished crankshaft and camshaft, a small pitch, silent cam chain and drive-by-wire throttle technology. This helps the engine produce 400 Hp of power and 475 Nm of torque.
The engine comes with a 6-speed close-ratio manual transmission with EXEDY motorsport-inspired high-performance clutch. The manual transmission is also available with SynchroRev Match, allowing heel-toe-like downshifting. The car also comes with an electronically controlled 9-speed automatic transmission with manual shift mode, launch control, Downshift Rev Matching. The car also features aluminium paddle shifters on the Sport 9AT model, also available with GT-R design paddles in the Performance 9AT. The 6MT model is also available with a Carbon fibre composite driveshaft.
The 2023 Nissan Z may have drawn inspiration from a 50-year-old design, but the sportscar comes with contemporary features of the modern era. The Z gets Heritage-style LED headlights, LED daytime running lights and LED combination taillamps. On the outside, the sportscar features a high rigidity body, long bonnet design, a progressive sloping roofline and a low rear stance. The car features a front chin splitter, side sill spoilers and a rear spoiler for advanced aerodynamics.
The brand is offering the Nissan Z with three monotone and six dual-tone colour options. Monotone colours include – Black Diamond Metallic, Gun Metallic and Rosewood Metallic. Dual-tone options include – Brilliant Silver, Boulder Gray, Seiran Blue, Ikazuchi Yellow, Passion Red TriCoat and Everest White Pearl TriCoat, available with Super Black roof.
The Nissan Z comes with a 240Z-inspired centre stack with an instrument panel-mounted analogue triple-pod cluster. The triple-pod cluster displays turbocharger turbine speed, turbocharger boost and volts. The car features an 8.0-inch display audio touchscreen as standard and 9.0- inch touchscreen as an option.
