Mercedes-Benz has launched the AMG SL 55 Roadster in India. The prices start from INR 2.35 crore (ex-showroom). This car replaces the S-Class cabriolet or the AMG GT Roadster. Further, Mercedes has also brought back the 55 nomenclature in the AMG cars after almost 10 years.
On the outside, the car now gets the Panamericana grille, LED headlamps and a long bonnet. It comes with a sharply raked windscreen and 20-inch alloys as standard. The SL 55 AMG can also be configured with optional 21-inch wheels. The rear gets quad exhausts as well.
Buyers can choose from eight paint options – Obsidian black, Selenite grey, Hyper blue, Alpine grey, Opalite white bright, Spectral blue magno, Patagonia red bright and Monza grey magno.
In terms of dimensions, the car measures 4,705 mm long, 1,915 mm wide and 1,395 mm tall. The wheelbase stands at 2,700 mm.
The roof consists of a triple fabric material that is claimed to be lighter than before. The roof can open or close up to 60 km/h speeds and takes 16 seconds to deploy to store. The roof can be configured in Black, Dark red and Grey options.
On the inside, the car gets a 11.9-inch vertically oriented infotainment. The screen is adjustable in 6 positions, ranging from 12-32 degrees. It runs off the latest MBUX software. There is another 12.3-inch display for the driver while a head-up display is an optional extra. The car gets a multifunction twin-spoke AMG steering.
Interior upholstery options can be selected from five options – Black Nappa leather and microfiber with red contrast stitching, Black Nappa leather, Sienna brown Nappa leather, Truffle brown Nappa leather and Black Nappa leather and microfiber with yellow contrast stitching. Customers can also choose from aluminium or carbon fibre trims and AMG sport seats or AMG performance seats.
Music is played through the Burmester surround sound system.
Mercedes has equipped the SL 55 roadster with a 4.0-litre twin turbo V8 engine. This is good 476 HP and 700 Nm of torque. The motor is paired with a 9-speed torque converter gearbox that drives all the wheels via the 4Matic+ system. The company claims a 0-100 km/h time of 3.9 seconds and a top speed of 295 km/h.
The rear axle steering is offered as standard.
