Lexus has brought in the new RX SUV. The SUV retails with a price tag of INR 95.80 lakh (ex-showroom, India). This is for the RX350h Luxury variant. The higher-performance variant, the RX500h F-Sport+, will retail with a price tag of INR 1.18 crore (ex-showroom, India). We first saw the Lexus RX at the Auto Expo 2023.
Customers can have the new Lexus RX with a choice of two powertrains. The first is the RX 350h Luxury, which uses a 2.5-litre petrol engine mated to a CVT. Second gets an electric motor, which in combination develops 250 HP and 242 Nm. The SUV also benefits from an all-wheel drive system as standard. In terms of performance, the SUV is capable of doing 0 to 100 kmph sprint in a claimed 7.9 seconds. The top speed of the SUV is set at 200 kmph.
The RX500h F-Sport+ equips a 2.4-litre turbo-petrol engine. This motor is matched to a 6-speed automatic gearbox. In combination with the e-motor, this setup produces 371 HP and 460 Nm of torque. With an all-wheel drive setup as standard, the RX500h can do the 0-100 kmph dash in 6.2 seconds. Meanwhile, the claimed top speed is set at 210 kmph.
Lexus makes use of a bipolar nickel-metal hydride battery in the new RX. Meanwhile, the RX500h uses a 288V battery.
In terms of design, the new RX uses Lexus’ Alluring X Verve design language. This emulates the ‘spindle body’ appearance of the new RZ electric SUV so perfectly. The RX500h equips the F-Sport body kit that gets some visual differences over the standard model.
On the inside, we see Lexus has incorporated its Tazuna concept for the fifth-gen RX. This means “human-centric” with a target to connect the driver to the road for enhanced concentration.
The RX also features a slew of tech and equipment. This includes a heads-up display, wireless charger, a 14-inch touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay – Android Auto is wired – and a panoramic sunroof. Customers have the Lexus in a choice of three interior colours – Black, Dark Sepia and Solis White. Meanwhile, they get two trim options that include sumi woodgrain and medium bamboo brown.
The fifth-gen Lexus RX will go head-to-head with the Mercedes-Benz GLE. Other options of the RX include the BMW X5, Jeep Grand Cherokee, Jaguar F-Pace, Range Rover Velar, and Audi Q7.
