Kia has launched the updated version of its cars which now meet the upcoming emission norms. The Real Driving Emissions (RDE) norms are more stringent than before. One of these cars is the 2023 Kia Carens. The highlight of this is the new turbo petrol engine.
What’s new in the 2023 Kia Carens?
First and foremost, gone is the 1.4-litre turbo petrol engine. Kia has instead equipped the 2023 Carens with a 1.5-litre engine dubbed as the Smartstream 1.5 T-GDi. This engine churns out 160 PS of peak power @ 5,500 rpm and 253 Nm of torque @ 1,500-3,500 rpm.
In terms of transmission options, Kia now offers only an iMT or Intelligent Manual Transmission as standard with all diesel and turbo petrol engines across the line-up. This means even the 2023 Kia Carens will come with a 6iMT as standard on both the turbo-petrol and diesel engine.
Other transmission options include a 7-speed dual clutch on the G1.5 T-GDi and a 6AT on the 1.5-litre diesel engine.
Apart from the power numbers, the engines are now BS6 Phase II emission norms compliant and meet the E20 regulation as well.
Popularity of the Kia Carens
Kia has rightly focused on the highly lucrative 7-seater market with the Cars. The Carens is in good demand and is priced at a relatively affordable level compared to the features on offer. By understanding the mentality of the car buyer in India, Kia has offered the Carens with a choice of both 6 and 7-seat configurations.
The Carens heads against the likes of Hyundai Alcazar, Tata Safari, MG Hector Plus, and Toyota Innova. Further, the entry-level trims of the Carens are able to compete with the Maruti Ertiga and the XL6.
Pricing of the 2023 Kia Carens
With the new updated car, Kia has revised prices of the Carens. The 2023 Carens now starts from INR 10.45 lakh and goes all the way up to INR 18.95 lakh (ex-showroom, New Delhi):
