Hyundai has launched the new-gen Verna in India. The Verna will be a key offering from HMIL. The new Hyundai Verna has a starting price tag of INR 10.89 lakh (ex-showroom). This goes all the up to INR 17.38 lakh. The all-new Verna will come equipped with ADAS Level 2 features. Under the Hyundai SmartSense suite, the sedan will get front and rear radar-based ADAS features.
The car comes with a new design, new interiors and new powertrains. Amongst those, the more interesting one is the 1.5-litre turbo petrol motor which is the go-to choice if you want performance. But how does it fare against competition? Let us take a look at the same.
The 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine in the new Verna packs in quite a punch. This motor develops 158 BHP and 253 Nm. Hyundai offers a choice of either a 6-speed manual or a 7-speed DCT gearbox.
Skoda offers a choice of turbo petrol motors with the Slavia. These include the 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder TSI and the 1.5-litre 4-cylinder TSI. The former makes 113 BHP and 178 Nm while the latter is good for 148 BHP and 250 Nm. Transmission options include a 6-speed manual for both engines and an optional 6-speed AT for the 1.0-litre and a 7-speed dual clutch for the 1.5 TSI.
Both Skoda and Volkswagen share engines in their sedan offerings. That said there is little difference in the numbers. The same 1.0-litre motor in the Virtus 113 BHP and 175 Nm while the 1.5-litre makes the same 148 BHP and 250 Nm.
In terms of gearbox options, the same have been carried over from the Skoda. These include a 6-speed manual on both the engines. Meanwhile the 1.0 TSI gets the 6-speed AT and the 1.5 TSI comes with a 7-speed DCT as optional.
