2023 Hyundai Verna BN7 starts road testing in India

Hyundai has started the road testing of the next-generation Verna in India. With the codename ‘B7’, the next-generation Verna was seen undergoing testing in South India. Hyundai will unveil the new Verna internationally this year. The model will then most likely make its Indian debut sometime next year. Expect the new Verna to borrow styling cues from its bigger sibling, the Elantra. The BN7 Verna will also probably feature mild-hybrid powertrains.

2023 Hyundai Verna BN7 – What All To Expect?

All the sightings of the cars undergoing testing are heavily camouflaged. We saw the new Verna for the first time ever in Korea. However, we do know that the sedan will use the new ‘Sensuous Sportiness’ design language. The new Elantra, Sonata and i20 hatchback already use the same design language.

The new Verna will feature a wider grille and headlights that merge into them. Additionally, the sedan could also feature a split-headlight design like the Creta. What is visible from the spy shots is the fastback-like styling and a tapering roof. The new side silhouette is similar to the Elantra as well as its competition, Slavia and Virtus. The rear of the car will get sharper taillights. The sharper taillights will resemble that of the new Elantra. As with a newer generation car, expect it to grow in size to offer additional space on the inside.

The interiors of the new Verna will likely feature an all-new dashboard design. The increase in outside dimensions will also make for a roomier interior. Expect the car to get the usual features like LED headlights, a sunroof and ventilated seats. However, the spy shots confirm a new 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment display and digital instrument cluster, similar to the i20.

2023 Hyundai Verna BN7 – What Powertrains Will It Offer?

Details are scarce at the moment but expect the sedan to continue using the 1.5-litre petrol and 1.5-litre diesel engines. However, the engines will likely get mild-hybrid technology. This will include features such as an auto start/stop system and a regenerative braking system. The new mild-hybrid system will help the new Verna comply with newer emission norms. Additionally, it will also increase the car’s fuel efficiency by up to five per cent. Hyundai could also add more small-capacity turbo-petrol engines to the line-up.

As for the transmission options, both the engines will likely continue to offer manual and automatic gearboxes. Additionally, like in the new Seltos, there is a possibility the diesel could get the iMT gearbox.
