2023 Hyundai Exter SUV Review

Hyundai has launched the Exter compact SUV in the Indian market. Available in multiple variants and powertrain options, the Exter starts from INR 5,99,900.

The entry level SUV segment is a good market. With rivals Tata Punch and Citroen C3 getting good numbers, it was only a matter of time before Hyundai got their product for this segment. Further, with Hyundai’s No 2 position being challenged by Tata, Hyundai wants to offer a product that will keep the Korean carmaker safely in the runner’s-up position in terms of total sales.

Details of the Hyundai Exter Exteriors

In terms of design, the car uses Hyundai’s Sensuous Sportiness design theme. The car gets a two box shape and looks rugged. It gets multiple crease lines and black cladding is present all-around. The square wheel arches are flared and a prominent design element. The Exter also gets silver skid plates, black grille, roof rails and gets minimal usage of chrome.

Some of the standout visual elements of the car include H-shaped LED DRLs and square headlamps placed down in the bumper, H-themed tail lamp, 15-inch alloy wheels and dual tone colour options.

In terms of dimensions, the Exter is 3,815 mm long, 1,710 mm wide and 1,631 mm tall. The wheelbase measures 2,450 mm.

Hyundai Exter : Interiors

The interior closely follows the themes of the Grand i10 Nios and the Aura. The Exter gets an all-black dashboard. There is an 8-inch touchscreen and multifunction steering wheel. The infotainment is compatible with both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The car gets a dual-tone upholstery in black and green.

Some of the features on the car include an automatic climate control, sunroof and connected car tech. Hyundai Exter owners will get voice commands without the internet and in multiple languages as well. OTA software updates are bundled as well.

Hyundai Exter : Engine options

As the car is based on the Hyundai Grand i10 Nios and the Aura, the engine is shared with them as well. The 1.2-litre 4-cylinder petrol engine develops 82 BHP @ 6,000 rpm and 114 Nm @ 4,000 rpm. The gearbox duties are handled by a 5-speed manual or a 5-speed AMT. There is also a CNG option.

Safety features of the Hyundai Exter

The Exter comes with a host of with safety features. These include the like ESP, VSM, ABS with EBD & brake assist, traction control to name a few. Further, all the occupants get 3-point seatbelts, there are 6 airbags, ISOFIX child seat mounts, rear parking sensors and camera. Hyundai also offers a dashcam with dual camera, TPMS, emergency stop signal, hill-hold assist and SOS function.
