Honda has released a new teaser of an upcoming car for the Indonesian market. The release is scheduled for November 2, 2022.
While details about the new car are not yet known, the teaser image shows a silhouette of a compact SUV. Further, there is a large W in the background. This could imply that Honda is planning to launch the new WR-V. The car in the image gets a two-tone colour scheme, with the top half coloured in black. It has a coupe-like roof line, upright front fascia and LED headlamps. The ORVMs have indicators, and the rear lights appear to have a vertical design.
Honda will likely position it on the premium end of the spectrum in terms of features. This means that it could come with a semi-digital driver’s display, ambient lighting, a large touchscreen infotainment system and connected car features. Fit and finish are likely to be good, and one can expect soft-touch materials for contact areas and leatherette material for the upholstery.
The teaser image could also be the production version of the SUV RS Concept showcased back in 2021. In terms of powertrain options, depending on the market, it could get petrol, turbo petrol, diesel or a hybrid engine option. If this car is launched in India, it will most likely get the 1.2-litre NA petrol engine from the Jazz. This engine is paired with a 5-speed manual or a CVT gearbox. Honda India has confirmed that future models in India will not be offered with a diesel engine. Honda might also evaluate a hybrid engine for the Indian market. With the City hybrid response, certain sections of the market might prefer hybrid engines for their superior fuel economy and low emissions.
In terms of safety, it will get the usual measures like Airbags, ABS, ESP, etc. But Honda could also offer ADAS features. Newer crash test norms have ensured that cars with ADAS features are eligible for a higher star rating.
Honda could surprise us with the name of this car, but the WR-V badge is familiar in India, and the Japanese carmaker could consider sticking with the same name.
