Honda has revealed the new 6th generation CR-V for the US market. The CR-V has been US’ best-selling SUV for the past 25 years. And now, the new one will soon raise the stakes. The all-new 2023 Honda CR-V gets a new exterior and interior design and Honda’s 4th-generation hybrid-electric powertrain. Honda will position the Hybrid models at the top of the CR-V lineup. Furthermore, Honda claims it will represent about 50 per cent of the 6th generation CR-V sales. The all-new Honda SUV will launch this summer. However, the Hybrid models will launch later in the year.
The 6th generation Honda CR-V now features a more grown-up design. The front of the CR-V gets a large mesh grille and slim headlights. The 2023 CR-V will also come in Sport and Sport Touring versions with more aggressive front and rear bumper designs. On the sides, the 2023 CR-V shows its increased dimensions. The SUV has grown 69 mm in length and also gets a 40 mm longer wheelbase. It runs on 18-inch alloy wheels with higher variants getting a black finish. At the back, the 2023 CR-V gets sleeker taillights and a roof-mounted spoiler. The rear bumper also houses surrounds for exhausts in either chrome or black finish.
As for the interior, the design borrows heavily from the new-generation Honda Civic. Depending on the variant, the 2023 CR-V will get an all-black or a dual-tone interior. The 6th generation CR-V gets a 7-inch digital instrument cluster and a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment display. Higher variants will get a bigger, 9-inch unit. Honda also claims the CR-V’s centre console offers the most storage options in its class. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto will be standard across the range. Meanwhile, for 2023, the CR-V also gets a new wide-angle camera and a radar system. These are part of Honda’s ADAS, which will also be standard across the range.
Honda will offer the 6th generation CR-V in four variants. These are – EX, EX-L, Sport and the range-topping Sport Touring. In the US, Honda will offer it with two petrol engines. The EX and EX-L will use a 1.5-litre four-cylinder turbo-petrol with 190 HP and 243 Nm of torque. On the other hand, the Sport and Sport Touring variants will use a larger 2.0-litre four-cylinder hybrid engine. The Sport & Sport Touring variants pack 204 HP and 335 Nm of torque. Also, both engines are only available with an automatic transmission.
