After the launch of MT-10 earlier this month, it was quite obvious for Yamaha to launch a higher-spec SP trim. And here it is, Yamaha has unveiled the SP trim of the much-revered MT-10 at EICMA 2021. The motorcycle does get a handful of upgrades when compared to the regular MT-10. Thus making the bike much more powerful. The key differentials include improved brakes, reduced weight, a new TFT dash and refreshed styling. Furthermore, one significant addition to the SP spec is the latest semi-active suspension system from Ohlins. And this makes the MT-10 Spec the first motorcycle to get the setup.
First thing first, the most prominent difference is the suspension setup. For the SP trim, Yamaha is using high-end Ohlins forks as opposed to the KYB kit in the regular trim. This new Ohlins setup offers a wide range of settings accessible via the motorcycle’s TFT system. There are a total of three semi-active modes, A-1, A-2 and A-3 – and a trio of manually-adjusted setups – M-1, M-2 and M-3. The semi-active mode sets up the rebound and compression damping on the go, according to the road condition and riding style. Of all, the A1 is the most sporty setting. The manual setting gives complete freedom to the rider for electronically tweaking the compression and rebound of the forks and shock.
Other than the suspension setup, Yamaha MT-10 also gets a new three-piece belly pan which helps in protecting the oil cooler. There’s a slight upgrade in the braking department as well. The regular trim already gets the new radical brake master cylinder. But with the SP spec, the motorcycle gets braided hoses. The engine is the same as the one offered with the standard spec, which is the 998cc CP4 unit. The performance figure stands at 164 BHP and 112 Nm.
As of now, it is expected that Yamaha will launch the regular trim of the MT-10 for the Indian market sometime in mid-2022. But, the chances of the SP trim being available for the Indian rider remains very slim.
