Volvo India is updating its complete lineup in India. The Scandinavian brand recently launched the updated 2022 XC40 facelift in the country. The brand also updated its other SUVs, the XC60 and the XC90, with mild-hybrid powertrains. Volvo is extending the same treatment to its sedans as well. The brand has launched the updated S90 mild-hybrid in India.
Interestingly, we do not see Volvo’s other sedan, the S60, on the Indian website anymore. Thus, it is likely that the brand has discontinued it. However, there’s no official confirmation from Volvo India’s end. It is likely the S60 will return to the market in the near future.
Like with other recently introduced Volvos, the S90 comes only in a single fully-loaded variant. The 2022 S90 is available in the B5 Ultimate variant, similar to the XC90 SUV. Volvo India has priced the 2022 S90 B5 Ultimate mild-hybrid at INR 66.90 lakh ex-showroom.
Like all Volvos, the S90 also gets an understated and sleek look with minimal cuts and creases. This accentuates the width and length of the large sedan. Furthermore, the low stance and large glasshouse make it seem larger than it is. On the outside, the 2022 Volvo S90 mild-hybrid gets 18-inch 5-Triple spoke diamond-cut alloy wheels, bright aluminium trim around the side windows and a high gloss black front grille with a chrome frame. Customers will be able to choose from 4 exterior colour options. These are – Denim Blue, Onyx Black, Platinum Grey and Crystal White.
On the inside, the S90 comes with Volvo’s latest Android-based infotainment system with built-in Google apps and services such as voice-activated Google Assistant and Google Maps. Other highlights include ventilated, heated as well as massaging front seats, 4-zone climate control with humidity sensor and more. The S90 also features powered rear window sun curtains. The driver gets a 12-inch digital instrument cluster with two display modes – Navi and Calm. The S90 also comes with a 19-speaker 1,460W Bowers & Wilkins high-fidelity audio system.
Customers can choose from two interior options – Amber ventilated Nappa leather in Charcoal interior and Maroon Brown ventilated Nappa leather in Charcoal interior. Both come with Pitched Oak decor and crystal gear shift by Orrefors.
Similar to the XC60 mild-hybrid, powering the S90 mild-hybrid is a 2.0-litre 4-cylinder petrol engine. The engine also gets a 48-Volt mild-hybrid system and has a combined output of 250 PS and 350 Nm. Also similar to the XC60 is the 8-speed automatic gearbox. However, unlike the XC60, in the S90, the engine sends power to the front wheels only. Volvo claims it can do 0 to 100 kmph in 6.9 seconds and hit an electronically-limited top speed of 180 kmph.
