2022 Mercedes-Benz EQS electric sedan revealed with 770 km range

Mercedes-Benz unveils the brand’s first all-electric luxury saloon from Mercedes-EQ, the EQS. The Mercedes-Benz EQS is also the first model based on a modular architecture for luxury and executive-class electric vehicles. The brand reveals that the EQS will be available in the US market by Fall this year. Furthermore, the Mercedes-EQ also revealed that the EQS will be available in two trims – EQS 450+ and EQS 580 4MATIC.

Powertrain

The all-electric luxury sedan comes with a permanently excited synchronous motor with a rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive depending on the variant. The EQS will come with a 245 kW power unit on the EQS 450+ and produce 568 Nm of torque. On the other hand, the EQS 580 4Matic will come with a 385 kW/855 Nm output powertrain. Both variants are capable of achieving an electronically limited top speed of 210 kmph. The EQS 580 4Matic also comes with a Torque Shift function that continuously distributes the drive torques between the front and rear axles. Mercedes-Benz also revealed that a performance version with a 560 kW powertrain is also being planned

Battery

The Marcedes-Benz EQS features new-generation batteries with higher energy density and comes in the option of either a larger 107.8 kWh or a smaller 90 kWh battery pack. The brand claims a range of 770 km on a single charge with the 385 kW/855 Nm output powertrain. The long-range is not just because of the considerable denser battery but also the 0.20 Cd aerodynamics. The powerful powertrain and the long-range fulfil all the expectation of a progressive saloon in the S-Class segment. The Mercedes-Benz EQS can recharge using a 200 kW at DC fast-charging station. The car can also charge at home or office using a 22 kW with AC using the onboard charger.

Design & Styling

The Mercedes-Benz EQS comes with a black-out grille, aero optimised intakes on the lower bumper and sleek upswept headlights. The car features a rounded roofline that slopes back into the rear deck. Further aero optimisation is done through smooth lines on the sides with flush door handles and aero optimised alloy wheels. On the rear, the EQS features aero ducts to the sides, wrap-around LED taillamps and a diffuser integrated into the bumper.

Features

The Mercedes-Benz EQS comes with features such as a 56-inch (141-cm) curved screen dashboard called the MBUX Hyperscreen. This consists of a 12.3-inch screen driver instruments cluster, a 17.7-inch central infotainment display and a 12.3-inch touchscreen on the passenger side. All three screens sit under a single pane of scratch-resistant glass. The touchscreen surface features 12 actuators with a haptic engine creating a fusion of Analogue and Digital feedback.

The EQS also features ENERGIZING AIR CONTROL PLUS an air filtration system with HEPA (High-Efficiency Particulate Air) filters. This can be used in conjunction with the climate control system and the air inside the car can be purified before getting into the vehicle. The EQS also gets automatic comfort doors as an option. This not only extends the door handles but also opens the driver’s door automatically. The EQS comes with standard rear-axle steering with a steering angle of up to 4.5 degrees, and alternatively with a steering angle of up to ten degrees. Other features include DIGITAL LIGHT headlamp technology, DRIVE PILOT autonomous driving technology up to 60 kmph, the latest generation of driver assistance systems and Integral Safety features.
