Written by Rohit Tonapi

Mercedes-Benz has revealed the specifications for the all-new India-spec C-Class. The company earlier commenced the production of the car and bookings are underway too. The new C-Class makes its way to India over a year after its international debut. The new C-Class is also lovingly called the ‘Baby S-Class’. This is because the new C-Class’ borrows exterior and interior design elements from the S-Class.

Though the bookings are already underway, the company has not revealed the price yet. Mercedes-Benz will reveal the prices for the new C-Class on 10th May 2022.

2022 Mercedes-Benz C-Class – Variants and Colours

The C-Class will come in three variants in India – C200, C220d and C300d. The range-topping C300d will only be available in the sportier AMG-Line. The C200 and C220d will be available in the Avantgarde line. To differentiate the C300d AMG-line from other models, it gets a sportier grille, different alloy wheel design and AMG-spec bumpers.

The new C-Class will be available in a total of six colour options – Mojave Silver, Salatine Grey, High-tech Silver, Manufaktur Opalite White, Cavansite Blue and Obsidian Black. However, the C300d will only be available with the last three colour options.

In addition to this, the C-Class will be available in three interior colour options – Sienna Brown, Sienna Black and Macchiato Beige. Depending on the variant, they will feature an open-pore wood trim with aluminium inserts or a metal weave.

2022 Mercedes-Benz C-Class – Exterior Highlights

The new design language on the C-Class brings it in line with the other sedans in the company’s lineup. Like the other sedans, the C-Class now gets shorter overhangs, an angular front end and new headlights and taillights.

The external proportions remain familiar to the older C-Class, but it gets new design elements all around. These include power bulges on the bonnet and a revised glasshouse that sits farther back. The creases and character lines of the car are also reduced to accentuate the shoulder line of the car.

2022 Mercedes-Benz C-Class – Interior Highlights

The interiors of the new C-Class borrow design cues heavily from the bigger S-Class. The most prominent change to the interior is the new portrait-style touchscreen infotainment display. The display measures 11.9-inch and runs on the second-generation MBUX software. The infotainment is loaded with tech such as connected features, a voice assistant, and even biometric authorisation.

Above the touchscreen sit new jet engine style air-vents. Mercedes-Benz has got rid of the gear shifter and rotary dial to free up space and for a cleaner look. To the side is the high definition floating LCD digital instrument cluster. The steering wheel of the C-Clas draws inspiration from the S-Class and also gets similar touch-sensitive controls.

Other highlights include a dual-pane sunroof, dual-zone climate control, wireless charging, powered front seats, and on the C300d, Mercedes’ digital headlights.

2022 Mercedes-Benz C-Class – Powertrain

The C-Class will get three engine options in total. These include one petrol and two diesel variants. The C200 will use a new 1.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine. The petrol engine produces 204 HP and 300 Nm of torque. The 1.5-litre replaces the 2.0-litre engine from the previous model.

The C200d and C300d use the same diesel engine but in different states of tune. The engine is a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo-diesel engine. In the C200d, it makes 200 HP and 440 Nm of torque. At the same time, the C300d produces 265 HP and 550 Nm of torque.

All the engines come with a 9-speed torque converter automatic. In addition to this, they feature a new 48V mid-hybrid tech with an integrated starter generator (ISG). The latter provides an additional 20 HP and up to 200 Nm of torque. The company claims a fuel efficiency figure of 16.9 kmpl for the C200 and 23 kmpl for the C220d. Hence, the C220d is the most fuel-efficient car from the manufacturer in India.

When it comes to performance, the C200 and C220d do the 0-100 kmph sprint in 7.3 seconds, while the C300d does it in 5.7 seconds.
