2022 Mercedes-AMG C43 sedan revealed with mild-hybrid tech

Mercedes-AMG has taken wraps off of the new C43 sedan. The new AMG model gets a host of performance updates and a new hybrid powertrain. The Mercedes-AMG C43 will also be available in an estate body style. It is based on the 5th-gen C-Class, which will launch in India soon.

Mercedes-AMG C43 Sedan – Exterior Highlights

The new C43 model gets new exterior design elements to differentiate it from the standard C-Class. At the front, the car gets larger air intakes, black accents on the bumper and gloss-black rear-view mirrors. The C43 also gets adaptive-LED headlamps with a DRL. The Panamericana grille with vertical slats completes the new front look.

The side of the car looks essentially the same except for bigger side sills. The AMG model also gets new 18-inch alloy wheels as standard. The rear of the car features a quad tailpipe setup and a new rear bumper with a diffuser. The side and rear of the car also sport new ‘Turbo Electrified’ badges.

Mercedes-AMG C43 Sedan – Interior Highlights

The interior uses the same 11.9-inch portrait-style touchscreen infotainment system and a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster. However, the C43 gets AMG-specific digital graphics for both. The 3-spoke flat-bottom steering wheel and carbon fibre trim add a sporty touch to the interiors. Other additions include sports seats, pedals and red-coloured seat belts.

Mercedes-AMG C43 Sedan – Powertrain

The new AMG C43 ditches the old 3.0-litre V6 turbo-petrol engine. Instead, it gets a new 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine with an electric turbocharger. The engine now also features a 48V mild-hybrid system. Thanks to the hybrid setup, the engine produces 402 HP and 500 Nm of torque. A boost function adds another 13 HP. The engine sends power to all four wheels through the 4MATIC drive system. The AMG C43’s engine is mated to a 9-speed automatic gearbox. The gearbox also features a ‘Race Start’ functionality.

The new engine propels the C43 from 0 to 100 kmph in 4.6 seconds. The top speed is electronically-limited to 250 kmph for 18-inch wheels and 265 kmph for the optional 19 or 20-inch wheels. The car also gets changes to the exhaust for a characteristic AMG exhaust note.
