2022 Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara will get Intelligent Electric Hybrid variant

Maruti Suzuki recently opened bookings for its upcoming 2022 Grand Vitara SUV in India. The mid-size SUV will be a sibling model to the Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder. The two SUVs are jointly developed by Maruti Suzuki and Toyota for the Indian and global markets. The new SUV is directly aimed at Hyundai’s Creta and Kia’s Seltos. The other SUVs it will compete with include the Nissan Kicks, Volkswagen Taigun, Skoda Kushaq and MG Astor.

As the unveiling of the new SUV nears, we are also getting more and more details about it. Maruti Suzuki confirmed the name of the SUV recently. Furthermore, since then, the brand has posted multiple teasers of the SUV on its social media handles.

The company will unveil the model on 20th July 2022 and will likely go on sale in the month of August. Interested customers can book the SUV by paying an amount of INR 11,000 by visiting their nearest NEXA dealership or using the E-Book option on the NEXA website. From the NEXA website’s E-Book option, we now also know what Maruti Suzuki will call the hybrid version of the Grand Vitara.

2022 Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara – ‘Intelligent Electric Hybrid’ Variant

We know that the Grand Vitara will use a mild-hybrid and a strong-hybrid powertrain. The Grand Vitara will share its platform and powertrain options with the Toyota Hyryder. Toyota has named the two powertrain options Neo Drive and Hybrid Drive. In the case of the Grand Vitara, Maruti Suzuki will not use any different moniker for the mild-hybrid version. However, Maruti Suzuki will name the strong-hybrid version ‘Intelligent Electric Hybrid’.

The new information comes via the official NEXA website. The website also reveals that one of the colour options will be the Nexa Blue. The signature colour option will be available with both the powertrain options. However, currently, the booking page shows no other colour options.

2022 Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara – Powertrain

We know the Grand Vitara will share its engines with the Toyota Hyryder. Thus, it will come with two 1.5-litre petrol engines. One of them will be the K-Series 1.5-litre petrol from Maruti Suzuki. This will be the mild-hybrid powertrain. The same engine is also available in the Ertiga, XL6 and the new Brezza. The mild-hybrid powertrain has an output of 103 HP and 137 Nm of torque. Transmission options will be a 5-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic. Like the Hyryder, Maruti Suzuki will also offer it with the AWD drivetrain.

The other petrol engine will be the 1.5-litre TNGA motor from Toyota. The petrol engine alone makes 92.4 HP and 122 Nm of torque. Since it is a strong-hybrid, it also gets an electric motor. The electric motor makes 80.2 HP and 141 Nm of torque. The total combined output is 115.56 HP. It will also only come with a CVT transmission and FWD drivetrain.
