The 2022 Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara shares its powertrains with the Toyota Hyryder. Thus, the latest Maruti Suzuki SUV gets a mild-hybrid and strong-hybrid powertrain. Powering the Smart Hybrid model is the company’s 1.5-litre K-series four-cylinder engine. This engine gets mild hybrid technology and also features an Integrated Starter Generator (ISG). The engine makes 103.06 PS at 6,000 rpm and 136.8 Nm of torque at 4,400 rpm. It will come with two transmission options – a 5-speed manual and a 6-speed torque converter automatic. The Alpha variant of the Grand Vitara will also be available with Suzuki’s AllGrip AWD drivetrain. However, only the manual variant is available with the AWD drivetrain.
The other engine option is a Toyota-sourced 1.5-litre petrol engine. The engine runs the Atkinson cycle for better efficiency. Furthermore, it gets a self-charging hybrid system. The engine alone produces 92.45 PS at 5,500 rpm and 122 Nm of torque from 4,400 rpm to 4,800 rpm. The engine also comes with an 80.2 PS electric motor.
