After successfully selling CNG cars from Arena showrooms, Maruti has introduced CNG variants for Nexa models. Baleno is one of the Nexa cars apart from XL6 to get CNG in its offering.
With rising fuel prices, and the discontinuation of diesel options, many buyers are looking at CNG as a viable alternative. Not only is the fuel green, but it also offers good fuel economy as well. Electric vehicles are also slowly coming up in the market, but they still have a long way to go considering the infrastructure in India. Hence CNG is the popular option now.
The Japanese carmaker provides CNG on cars like the Alto, Celerio, S-Presso, Swift, Dzire, WagonR, Ertiga, etc.
The Baleno S-CNG is available in Delta and Zeta variants. They will be offered only with a 5-speed manual transmission. No automatic options are on the card, unlike the upcoming Brezza CNG. The car comes with a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment head-unit with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity. The Zeta variant will also get cruise control and 6 airbags among other features.
In terms of CNG-specific updates, the Baleno will get an updated driver information display to accommodate CNG fuel levels, a CNG/petrol switchover button, a fire extinguisher and a CNG tank in the boot.
Based on demand, it is also possible that Maruti could offer CNG on the top-spec Alpha variant at a later date.
The Baleno S-CNG is powered by a 1.2-litre petrol engine that develops 76 BHP @ 6,000 rpm and 98.5 Nm @ 4,300 rpm when running on CNG. In petrol mode, the same generates 89 BHP @ 6,000 rpm and 113 Nm @4,400 rpm. Maruti has claimed a fuel efficiency of 30.61 km/kg when running on CNG.
