Written by AnantaSaranNayak

Maruti Suzuki grabbed all the headlines with the launch of all-new Baleno. The hatchback has been one of the top-selling products in the country. One of the main reasons why Baleno sells in such a huge number is the Maruti Suzuki nameplate and its fuel efficiency. With rising fuel prices in the country, customers are looking to extract the most out of a litre of fuel. And again Maruti Suzuki has hit the sweet spot for the customers. With a claimed ARAI mileage of 22.35 kmpl for the manual and 22.94 kmpl for the automatic, Baleno has got the best fuel efficiency numbers amongst its rivals. This is a great USP for potential customers.

How Does Baleno Stack Up Against Its Rivals?

In terms of fuel efficiency, Baleno remains the undisputed king. Its longstanding arch-rival, Hyundai i20, gets a fuel efficiency rating as follows. For the 1.2-litre petrol engine, the manual returns a figure of 20.35 kmpl and 19.65 kmpl for the automatic. Meanwhile, the 1.0-litre turbo engine gets a claimed ARAI mileage rating of 20.25 kmpl for both the manual and auto.

Another emerging model that is picking up sales rapidly is the Tata Altroz. The hatchback can run up to 19.05 kilometres and 18.13 kilometres per litre for the naturally aspirated and turbo engine respectively. Volkswagen’s Polo TSI gets an ARAI rating of 18.24 kmpl and 16.47 kmpl for the manual and automatic gearbox respectively. For Honda Jazz, ARAI has given a fuel efficiency figure of 16.6 kmpl for the manual and 17.1 kmpl for the automatic.

Maruti Suzuki has put on an aggressive price tag for the Baleno. With a starting price of INR 6.35 lakh that goes all the way up to INR 9.49 (ex-showroom), the Baleno undercuts its closet rival i20 by a wide margin. Although, the diesel offering of the i20 gets a better fuel efficiency figure i.e. 25.2 kmpl. Maruti Suzuki has also added an array of new updates to the 2022 model. Keeping in mind Maruti Suzuki’s wide and reliable service network, one cannot go wrong with the new Baleno.
