One of the most affordable small hatchbacks in the country, the Alto, will soon be launching the 2022 model year of the car. For 2022, the Alto K10 will get new looks and a new engine. The Alto is one of the few small hatchbacks that still remain on sale in the market. Apart from Renault Kwid, there are no other small hatchbacks. Previously there was the Datsun Go, Go+ and RediGo and Hyundai’s Santro and Eon, all of which are discontinued.
The launch of the model is near as it was spied without any camouflage while shooting for a TVC. These spy shots also showed us what to expect from the new Alto K10 in terms of looks. And now, thanks to a new type-approval document leak, we know what variants the brand will offer and a few of the specifications.
The new type-approval document confirms that the 2022 Alto K10 will be larger than the current one. The 2022 Alto K10 measures 3,530 mm in length, 1,490 mm in width and has a height of 1,520 mm. The wheelbase stands at 2,380 mm, and its gross vehicle weight is 1,150 kg.
The document also reveals the engine specifications. The 2022 Alto K10 will use a 998cc naturally-aspirated K10C engine. The engine makes 66 PS at 5,500 rpm and 89 Nm of torque at 3,500 rpm. The same engine also does duty on a few other Maruti Suzuki cars. These include the 2022 S-Presso, Celerio and WagonR. Unlike the current Alto K10, the new one will get a 5-speed AMT gearbox. The Alto K10 previously came with the same gearbox, but Maruti Suzuki discontinued it during the shift to BS6.
The 2022 Maruti Suzuki Alto K10 will be available in a total of 11 variants. Out of these, there are 4 main trims. These are – STD, LXi, VXi, and VXi+. Furthermore, all these trims are available with an (O) variant. These variants get passenger side airbags and seat belt pre-tensioners. The Maruti Suzuki AGS gearbox, which is the 5-speed AMT, will be available in – VXi, VXi (O), VXi+ & VXi+ (O).
