2022 Mahindra Scorpio-N launched in India at INR 11.99 lakh

After a lot of teasers, speculations, leaks and spy shots, the “Big Daddy of SUVs” is finally here. Mahindra & Mahindra has finally unveiled the 2022 Scorpio-N. The company took its own sweet time to ensure it got everything right. The SUV features an all-new exterior design, interiors and 3rd generation body-on-frame chassis. The next-generation 2022 Scorpio-N will be available in multiple powertrain, drivetrain and seating options and variants. The multiple options mean Mahindra aims to take a market share from both the C-segment and D-segment SUVs.

Bookings for the new Scorpio-N will begin on 30th July 2022 on a first-come, first-serve basis. Mahindra says the ‘Add to Cart’ option will be available from 5th July 2022 onwards on the company’s website. Prospective customers can book the 2022 Scorpio-N from the official website or by visiting their nearest M&M dealerships. After booking the vehicle, customers will get a 2-week window before finalising the variant and colour. Test drives of the 2022 Scorpio-N will begin in 30 cities initially, with more to follow soon.

2022 Mahindra Scorpio-N – Variants, Pricing & Colour Options

Mahindra will offer the next-generation Scorpio-N in 5 variants – Z2, Z4, Z6, Z8 and the range-topping Z8L. There will be a choice of a petrol and diesel engine with a manual and automatic gearbox. Pricing starts at INR 11.99 lakh ex-showroom. The detailed pricing for petrol and diesel is –

Mahindra stated the pricing announced is introductory pricing and is valid for the first 25,000 bookings. The brand will reveal prices for the 4WD, AT and 6-seater variants on 21st July 2022.

Mahindra will offer the 2022 Scorpio-N in seven body colour options. These are – Red Rage, Napoli Black, Deep Forest, Everest White, Dazzling Silver, Royal Gold and Grand Canyon.

2022 Mahindra Scorpio-N – Top Features

One of the biggest highlights of the Scorpio-N is the world’s first Alexa-enabled what3words capability. Other highlights include a Penta Link suspension with WATT’s Linkage. The setup gives the Scorpio-N superior ride and handling characteristics. For times when the roads end, the Scorpio-N will take on the rough roads using its new 4XPLOR Intelligent Terrain Management System. Higher variants of the Scorpio-N will also get multiple drive modes – Zip, Zap and Zoom. This will allow users to tailor it according to their driving mood.

The top-end model also features a 12-speaker Sony sound system with 3D Immersive Sound. For more comfort and convenience, the model will also get a 6-way powered seat. Mahindra’s latest AdrenoX powers the 20.32-cm infotainment screen and also brings in-built navigation. It features built-in Alexa and wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay compatibility. The SUV will also feature a host of connected car features.

As for safety features, the 2022 Scorpio-N will be available with ESC, Hill Hold Control (HHC), Hill Descent Control (HDC) and side and curtain airbags. The sunroof of the Scorpio-N will also get an anti-pinch function. Other safety features include Brake Disc Wiping (BDW), Roll Over Mitigation (ROM), Electronic Brake Prefill (EBP) and much more.

2022 Mahindra Scorpio-N – Best-In-Class Features

The 2022 Scorpio-N will have a host of best-in-class leg room, headroom and shoulder room. Thus, offering a spacious interior and more than enough room for its occupants. The Scorpio-N gets best-in-class forward visibility and ground clearance for better off-road capabilities.

The 2022 Scorpio-N will also feature best-in-class roll arm height. Compared to the D-segment benchmark, the Scorpio-N offers better roll arm height by 8.3 per cent. Thus, offering the best-in-class body roll. A wide 1580 mm wheel track and a low CG height of 706 mm also provide better high-speed stability.

The front suspension of the SUV features a double-wishbone setup. The best-in-class setup provides longer suspension travel and also reduces unsprung mass. At the same time, the rear of the SUV features a first-in-segment Penta Link suspension. The rear suspension also features a Watt’s link. The inclusion of which helps retain axle centerline during cornering. Additionally, the dampers also feature Frequency Dependent Damping (FDD). The first-in-segment feature gives it an excellent ride and body control.

Mahindra has also worked on the NVH of the Scorpio-N and claims it offers the best-in-class cabin insulation. The engines also have a low idle noise of 39 dBA for petrol and 43 dBA for diesel.

2022 Mahindra Scorpio-N – Powertrain

The 2022 Scorpio-N will be available in a petrol and diesel engine option. The petrol engine in the Scorpio-N is the same as the XUV700 and Thar. The 2.0-litre TGDi Stallion turbo-petrol motor produces 200 PS of power and 380 Nm of torque. Meanwhile, the diesel engine uses a 2.2-litre mHawk motor which makes 175 PS of power and 400 Nm of torque. Mahindra will offer both engines with a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic transmission option. Additionally, the diesel engine also gets an option of a 4×4 drivetrain.

While all the diesel variants use the same engine, the Z2 and Z4 variants come in a lower state of tune. These variants get 132 PS of power and 300 Nm of torque. In addition to more power, the higher variants also get three drive modes – Zip, Zap & Zoom.
