Mahindra recently unveiled the prices for the 2022 Scorpio Classic. The previous generation model will continue to be on sale alongside the new Scorpio-N. Mahindra has not just rebadged the old Scorpio as the Scorpio Classic but also given it a host of updates.
On the other hand, we have the 2022 Scorpio-N. The next-generation Scorpio-N has become an instant hit even before the deliveries have started. The SUV garnered over 1 lakh bookings in under 30 minutes after the brand commenced bookings.
Since we now have the prices for the Scorpio Classic, we compare them with the Scorpio-N’s prices to see if it makes sense to go with the Scorpio Classic or splurge more and opt for the Scorpio-N.
Unlike the plethora of powertrain and drivetrain options of the Scorpio-N, Mahindra is keeping it simple with the Scorpio Classic. Thus, it comes in only one powertrain and drivetrain option and two variants – Classic S Diesel and Classic S11 Diesel. Furthermore, both variants are available with 7- and 9-seater configurations.
On the other hand, the Scorpio-N is available in a lot more. In total, Mahindra offers the Scorpio-N in 5 variants. These are – Z2, Z4, Z6, Z8, Z8L. Additionally, the multiple engines, transmission and drivetrain options mean there’s one for all the price brackets. All the Scorpio-N variants come in a 7-seater configuration. However, the top-end Z8L variant is also available in a 6-seater configuration.
The 2022 Mahindra Scorpio Classic’s pricing starts at INR 11,99,000 ex-showroom for the Classic S Diesel variant. Meanwhile, the only other variant, Classic S11 Diesel, comes with an ex-showroom price of INR 15,49,000.
The 2022 Scorpio-N’s pricing also starts at INR 11,99,000 ex-showroom for the Z2 Petrol MT. However, the most expensive variant of the Scorpio-N, Z8 Diesel AT 4WD, costs INR 21,90,000 ex-showroom. This makes it INR 9,91,000 more expensive than the least expensive variant. Also, these prices exclude the cost of registration, insurance, etc. The difference between the on-road prices will be even bigger.
Since the Scorpio Classic is only available with a diesel engine, we’ll first compare it with the base diesel variant of the Scorpio-N. This variant is the Z2 Diesel MT and costs INR 12,49,000 ex-showroom. Thus, making it INR 5 lakh more expensive than the Classic S Diesel variant of the Scorpio Classic.
If we compare similarly priced Scorpio-N variants to the Scorpio Classic’s Classic S11 Diesel variant, we have – Z4 Petrol AT, Z6 Diesel MT and Z4 Diesel AT. These variants cost INR 15,45,000, INR 14,99,000 and INR 15,95,000 ex-showroom, respectively.
