2022 Kawasaki Ninja 400 launched at INR 4.99 lakh, seems OVERPRICED?

Since the stricter BS6 and Euro 5 emission norms came into effect, the Ninja 400 went was discontinued globally. About a month ago, the model made its comeback in the European market and now it also has arrived in India. Kawasaki took their own sweet time to update the Ninja 400 to Euro-5/BS6 emission norms, but it is finally here.

Many bike models that manufacturers updated to meet the BS6 emission norms received a price hike. However, the 2022 Kawasaki Ninja 400 continues to have the same INR 4.99 lakh sticker price. This is both a good and bad thing. The good bit is that the model does not get a price hike. However, the bad bit is that its pricing was never good value for money, to begin with. We were hoping Kawasaki priced the 2022 Ninja 400 right this time around, but that’s not the case.

2022 Kawasaki Ninja 400 – Highlights

Like the other Ninja models, the Ninja 400 also gets a sharp styling which draws inspiration from the H2. The model sports twin full-LED headlights at the front, a windscreen, fairing-mounted turn indicators and cowl-mounted rear-view mirrors. The tank gets a muscular design, and the bodywork also adds to the big bike feel of the bike.

Though the pricing remains the same as before, the 2022 Ninja 400 comes in two new colour options – Lime Green (KRT Edition) and Metallic Carbon Grey. These are the also same colour options that are available in the European market. Earlier reports suggested that we will only get the Lime Green colour options. However, it is good to have another colour option available.

The instrument cluster of the 2022 Ninja 400 continues with the same design as the old one. It uses an analogue tachometer and a multi-function LCD. Though many still prefer an analogue tachometer layout, the competition has moved on to full-colour TFT screens.

2022 Kawasaki Ninja 400 – Technical Specifications

Why change something that’s not broken? That is exactly what Kawasaki has done. Except make it compliant with the stricter emission regulations, Kawasaki has not made any changes to the engine or rest of the bike. Hence, it continues to use a 399cc liquid-cooled parallel-twin motor. The engine produces a peak power of 45 PS at 10,000 rpm. Meanwhile, the peak torque of 37 Nm arrives at 8,000 rpm. Interestingly, the torque is 1 Nm more than the old version. The engine pairs with a 6-speed gearbox. The clutch also gets a slip and assist function.

The 2022 Ninja 400 uses a trellis steel frame, 41 mm telescopic front forks and a gas-charged rear monoshock. Additionally, the shock also gets preload adjustability. Braking hardware consists of a 310 mm petal disc at the front and a 220 mm petal disc at the rear. The callipers are from Nissin, and the bike also gets Dual-Channel ABS as standard. At the front, the Ninja 400 uses a 110-section tyre. At the same time, it uses a 150-section tyre at the back.

The 2022 Ninja 400 tips the scales at 168 kg. The ergonomics of the motorcycle offer a relaxed rider’s triangle. The seat height, at 785 mm, is also fairly low. All these factors mean the Ninja 400 is suitable for a wide range of riders.
