Hyundai recently unveiled the 4th generation Hyundai Tucson for the Indian market. Recently, the brand also officially opened bookings for the model at INR 50,000. Hyundai will launch the model soon and claims it will redefine the premium SUV segment. The last SUV to redefine the segment with its set of features and the value-for-money proposition was the Mahindra XUV700. Thus, even before the launch of the Tucson, we pin it against the Mahindra XUV700 in this specification comparison to see how they two stack up on paper.
The all-new Tucson will come to India with two engine options, one diesel and one petrol. As for the petrol, the SUV will use a new Nu 2.0-litre petrol mill with a 6-speed automatic. The engine makes a peak power of 156 PS at 6,200 rpm and a peak torque of 192 Nm at 4,500 rpm. Meanwhile, the diesel engine is also a new R 2.0-litre engine with a VGT and 8-speed automatic gearbox. The diesel mill has a peak power output of 186 PS at 4,000 rpm and 416 Nm at 2,000 to 2,750 rpm. Hyundai will also offer its HTRAC All-wheel drive system and Multi-Terrain Modes as standard.
On the other hand, Mahindra’s flagship is also available with a petrol and diesel engine. The petrol engine is the 2.0-litre mStallion TGDi motor. The turbo-petrol motor makes 200 PS at 5,000 rpm and 380 Nm of torque from 1,750 rpm to 3,000 rpm. The petrol motor is available with a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic. Meanwhile, the diesel engine on the XUV700 is the 2.2-litre mHawk CRDi turbo-diesel. The engine makes up to 185 PS at 3,500 rpm and up to 450 Nm of torque from 1,750 rpm to 2,800 rpm. Like the petrol model, the diesel is also available with the same transmission options. AWD is not standard but available in select variants.
The new Hyundai Tucson measures 4,630 mm in length, 1,865 mm in width and 1,665 mm in height. As India gets the extended wheelbase version of the Tucson, it has a long 2,755 mm wheelbase. On the other hand, the Mahindra XUV700 measures 4,696 mm in length, 1,890 mm in width and 1,755mm in height. Meanwhile, the wheelbase stands at 2,750 mm.
Thus, this makes the Hyundai Tucson 36 mm shorter, 25 mm narrower and 90 mm less tall than the Mahindra XUV700. However, the Tucson does offer a longer wheelbase. Although, with a 5 mm difference, it is negligible.
