Hyundai is currently testing its Tucson SUV in the Indian market. Images of a test mule have appeared on the internet, which leads us to believe that the South Korean company will soon be launching the new model in India. Hyundai could be running evaluation tests on the Tucson for it to comply to Indian standards. The brand unveiled the latest model back in 2020, and the new Tucson is available for sale in various international markets. Expect the brand to launch the new Tucson in India by Q2 or Q3 next year.
Sources report that the new Hyundai Tucson is currently under test on public roads near Chennai. The camouflaged mule is spied near the brand’s manufacturing plant, which leads us to believe that Hyundai could be planning to heavily localise the model in India. This will help the brand compete with other premium SUVs in the segment, such as the Jeep Compass and the Citroen C5 Aircross.
The Hyundai Tucson comes with design features such as the Parametric Dynamics design philosophy. The front fascia features a sharp design with ‘Parametric Hidden Lights’. The lights stay hidden until they are lit and integrate well with the front grille. The wedge design continues to the side of the Tucson, and the car features trapezoidal wheel arches. On the inside, the new Tucson features a dual-cockpit design and a decluttered layout. The SUV also comes with Hyundai’s new INTERFACE design integrated surface with a vertically oriented centre fascia. The car also features a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system and other creature comfort features.
Powering the Tucson in the international market is a 1.6-litre T-GDI Smartstream petrol engine. The engine comes with two states of tune a 150 PS with two-wheel-drive and a 180 PS with four-wheel-drive. The brand also offers a 1.6-litre CRDi Smartstream diesel engine. The engine comes with 136 PS of power and an optional four-wheel drive. The brand also offers a 1.6-litre turbo-petrol motor that makes 265 PS of power and uses plug-in hybrid technology.
