2022 Honda City e:HEV – Powertrain and Mileage

Powering the new Honda City e:HEV is the 1.5-litre Atkinson Cycle I-VTEC DOHC engine. The petrol engine is coupled to a self-charging and highly efficient Two Motor e-CVT Hybrid system. The Intelligent Power Unit (IPU) draws power from a Lithium-Ion battery pack. The battery pack is able to power the City Hybrid at slow speeds on electric-only power. The IPU produces a combined output of 126 PS of power and 253 Nm of torque matched to an engine-linked direct coupling clutch. Honda claims that the hybrid powertrain is capable of returning a fuel efficiency of 26.5 km/litre.

2022 Honda City e:HEV – How Does it Work?

The Honda City e:HEV comes with three driving modes – EV Drive, Hybrid Drive and Engine Drive. The electric-hybrid system integrates a Regeneration Mode during deceleration to recuperate energy and store it in the on-board battery pack. In addition to this, the Intelligent Power Unit is also capable of seamless and automatic switching between the three modes based on various driving situations. Thanks to the self-charging system, users need not charge the battery externally, offering a balance between petrol performance, battery efficiency and benefits of a cleaner eco-friendlier electric powertrain.
