At its peak between the 1950s and the 1970s, BSA Motorcycle was the world’s largest motorcycle manufacturer before it became defunct. Now the brand is back, with its first new-age motorcycle, the BSA Gold Star. Keeping true to its roots, the BSA Gold Star is a modern-classic motorcycle that made its debut at Motorcycle Live, NEC Birmingham. The brand boasts that the BSA Gold Star is the befitting evolution of the BSA Motorcycles and will relive the company’s true motorcycling spirit.
The BSA Gold Star features a draws inspiration from the M24 and DB34 Gold Star for its fuel tank. The modern-classic motorcycle also gets individual analogue speedometer and tachometer units along with an individual LCD multifunctional display. The fuel tank of the motorcycle comes with an offset fuel filler cap and pinstripes giving it the true retro look. The brand offers the motorcycle with chrome fenders and a black chassis. The brand has also put a lot of work into styling the engine. The engine is based on a pre-unit single unit and retains original BSA looks.
BSA offers the Gold Star with 18-inch front and 17-inch rear wire-spoke alloy wheels. The bike also comes with an optimised handlebar and footpeg position. The BSA Gold Star features original Lucas lamps but with modern LED technology. The brand has announced that the Gold Star will be available in Insignia Red, Dawn Silver, Midnight Black, Highland Green and Silver Sheen (Legacy Edition).
Powering the BSA Gold Star is a 652cc single-cylinder, four-valve DOHC engine. The liquid-cooled engine features twin spark plugs producing 45 Bhp of power and 55 Nm of torque. The single block engine with an 11.5:1 compression ratio is matched to a 5-speed transmission. BSA also reveals that the engine has been developed in partnership with the Technical University of Graz. The new engine also meets all the latest emission standards without comprising on the character and performance.
For the running gear, BSA is offering an all-new dual-cradle chassis with a D- Loop integrated into the design. The brand boasts that the design is a signature element from the original model. The motorcycle rides on 41mm telescopic forks on the front and a traditional swingarm with twin shock absorbers on the rear. Braking power comes from Brembo single 320mm disc brake at the front and 255mm disc at the rear. The bike also comes with Continental dual-channel ABS for safety. The bike rides on the Pirelli Phantom Sportscomp tyre on both the front and rear wheels.
Mahindra-backed Classic Legends will manufacture the new BSA Gold Star in the Indian market. The brand will soon reveal the launch dates for the new bike.
