2022 BMW M3 & M4 Competition get xDrive to sprint faster

When BMW introduced the M3 and M4 in September last year the brand also announced an xDrive model. And now, the BMW M3 & M4 Competition with Drive is finally here. The brand also reveals that the BMW M3 Competition Sedan with M xDrive and BMW M4 Competition Coupe with M xDrive will make their market debut in July 2021.

BMW M3 Competition Sedan with M xDrive and BMW M4 Competition Coupé with M xDrive

The high-performance sedan and coupe both come with a new M xDrive four-wheel-drive system. The M-specific all-wheel-drive system comes only with the eight-speed M Steptronic transmission with Drivelogic. This helps the car divide power between the front and rear wheels as required. The all-wheel-drive system also features Active M Differential. This fully variable distribution system manages the torque between the front and rear as per the situation demand. This enables the driver to turn even tight without any loss of power.

M xDrive & Active M Differential

The M xDrive system and the Active M Differential also comes with M-specific traction control and Dynamic Stability Control (DSC). This helps blend the customary M feeling of the classic rear-wheel drive but also delivers optimum traction when required. The M xDrive system uses an electronically controlled multi-plate clutch for the energy transfer, ensuring smoothness in transition. The transfer case also features a bespoke control unit and integrated wheel slip limitation. This enables optimum grip in all situations. This enables shave off 0.4 seconds in the 0-100 kmph time which is now 3.5 seconds on both the BMW M3 Competition Sedan with M xDrive and BMW M4 Competition Coupe with M xDrive. The standard rear-wheel-drive Competition models can accelerate from 0-100 kmph in 3.9 seconds.

Technical Modifications

The BMW M3 Competition Sedan with M xDrive and BMW M4 Competition Coupe with M xDrive now come with a double-joint spring strut front axle. This has been redesigned to adapt to the new front axle geometry and an individually tuned steering ratio. The new M xDrive models also feature a specially adapted engine oil supply system.

Engine Specifications

The engine specifications remain the same as before. The BMW M3 Competition Sedan with M xDrive and BMW M4 Competition Coupe with M xDrive share the 3.0-litre in-line six-cylinder motor that makes 510 Hp of power and 650 Nm of torque.
