Yamaha has unveiled the 2021 Model Year MT-09 SP in the European market. The MT-09 SP features new hardware, technology and a more powerful Euro5 compliant engine. The MT-09 SP is based on the standard version which was unveiled recently with an updated design, new equipment and a larger Euro5 compliant block as compared to the predecessor. The brand also upgraded the underpinnings and the mechanical bits for MY 2021.
The MT-09 SP edition distinguishes itself with its dedicated SP paint theme that looks inspired by the R1-M. The MT-09 Sp also features a cruise control system, a fully adjustable suspension, anodized brushed aluminium finish swingarm, double-stitched seat, 6-axis IMU plus lean-sensitive rider aids along with standard features such as a full-colour 3.5-inch TFT display, LED headlamps, Quick Shift System (QSS) and Yamaha-exclusive spin forged lightweight alloy wheels.
The 2021 Yamaha MT-09 SP is powered by a Euro5-spec-compliant 890cc liquid-cooled three-cylinder, four-valve-per-cylinder DOHC engine that produces 119 PS of power and 93 Nm of torque matched to a 6-speed transmission. The engine features YCC-T fuel injection with a downdraft intake system and a higher 11.5:1 compression ratio that allows the torque to be achieved lower in the rev range.
The new 890cc CP3 motor has been completely redesigned with new camshafts, crankshaft, crankcase, pistons and connecting rods. The intake system has also been redesigned and the injectors on the newly redesigned system come connected to the throttle valve side instead of the cylinder head. The engine components also employ the latest generation technology such as fracture-split forged connecting rods, lightweight forged pistons, direct-plated ceramic-composite cylinder bores and a new symmetrical exhaust muffler with dual outlets.
The 2021 Yamaha MT-09 SP is expected to reach dealerships in Europe by March 2021. The Pricing on the SP edition has not been announced yet but to put things into perspective the MT-09 in the standard form is priced from USD 9,399 MSRP. The MT-09 SP is expected to command a higher price than the standard.
