Yamaha has unveiled the 2021 Yamaha MT-09 ABS in the Japanese market. The Yamaha MT-09 ABS comes with a price tag of JPY 1,100,000 MSRP. The brand also retails the MT-09 SP ABS, which comes with a price tag of JPY 1,265,000 MSRP. The MT-09 ABS continues with the new-generation design following “The Rodeo Master”, the philosophy that debuted with the first MT-09 that appeared in 2014. However, the motorcycle is now evolved with the new “face of the MT series”.
Powering the Yamaha MT-09 ABS is a CP3 series 888cc three-cylinder engine with a 4-valve DOHC valve distribution. The inline water-cooled engine produces 120 PS of power and 93 Nm of torque. The fuel-injected engine comes with a constant-mesh return type 6-speed gearbox with a wet multi-plate clutch. The Yamaha MT-09 measures 2,090mm in height, 795mm in width and 1,190mm in height. The motorcycle gets 1,430mm of wheelbase and 140mm of ground clearance. The MT-09 ABS weighs 189 kg at the kerb, while the MT-09 ABS SP tips the scales at 190 kg.
The Yamaha MT-09 ABS and MT-09 SP ABS come with a newly developed IMU (Inertial Measuring Unit). The motorcycle features a Traction control system, LIF (Lift control system), SCS (Slide control system) and BC (Brake control). In addition, the motorcycle gets a new throttle-by-wire type YCC-T and a bidirectional quick-shifter and ABS technology.
The motorcycle also loses 4kgs of weight thanks to the frame made from 1.7mm CF Aluminium die-casting technology. The bike also features Yamaha Spin Forged alloy wheels. The brand also employs a 1.5-stage expansion chamber silencer with right and left symmetric pipes and a new air cleaner box. The Yamaha MT-09 ABS also comes with a new 3.5-inch TFT instruments cluster with easy to understand information display.
The 2021 Yamaha MT-09 ABS will be available in Pastel Dark Gray, Deep Purplish Blue Metallic, Matt Dark Gray Metallic. The 2021 Yamaha MT-09 SP ABS will come with a Black Metallic X paint theme. The SP model also comes with SP specific front suspension, Ohlins rear suspension, DLC coated fork inner tubes cruise control, and many more.
In the Japanese market, the 2021 MT-09 ABS will be available in August 2021, while the MT-09 SP ABS will be available in July 2021. Currently, Yamaha does not plan to launch the MT-09 ABS in the Indian market anytime soon.
