Last year, German car major Volkswagen launched the T-Roc SUV in the Indian market at the price of INR 19.99 lakh ex-showroom. Volkswagen imported 1000 units of the crossover SUV to India via the Completely Built-up Unit (CBU) route and despite COVID-19 pandemic and the lockdown, Volkswagen T-Roc was sold-out in September 2020.
The brand has now allocated another batch of the Volkswagen T-Roc SUV for the Indian market and the price for the new car is INR 21.35 lakh ex-showroom, nearly INR 1.36 lakh more than the MY2020 T-Roc. Apart from the increase in price which is likely to be due to the increased input costs in manufacturing in the global market, the change in currency rates due to the weakening of the Rupee, nothing major on the T-Roc has changed.
The 2021 Volkswagen T-Roc is still based on the MQB ‘Modularer Querbaukasten’ (Modular Transverse Matrix) vehicle architecture and comes with typical Volkswagen design with straight lines a geometric front and rear, coupe-esque rear quarters, a floating roofline effect, sharply raked rear windscreen, squared-off front apron, dual-beam projector LED headlamps, polygonal LED daytime running lights on the bumper, flared wheel arches with black cladding, LED wraparound taillamps and 17-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels.
The Volkswagen T-Roc measures 4342mm in length, 1819mm in width, 1573mm in height with a wheelbase of 2590mm. Powering the SUV is the same 1.5-litre four-cylinder TSI EVO turbo-petrol engine with ACT (Active Cylinder Technology) that is capable of activating & deactivating 2 out of the 4 cylinders depending on the driving pattern and load requirement, improving the overall fuel efficiency of the vehicle. The Active Cylinder Deactivation takes only 13 to 36 milliseconds, and is so fast that the driver does not even feel any loss in power. The engine produces 150 PS of power and 250 Nm of torque and comes with a 7-speed DSG automatic gearbox.
The Volkswagen T-Roc can be booked but putting down an amount of INR 51,000 and deliveries are expected to begin in late April.
