According to Tata Motors, the new Safari is the evolution of the Tata Safari in the late 1990s. But the twist in the tale is the Land Rover D8 derived OMEGA-ARC platform that also underpins the Harrier SUV. Although both the Harrier and Safari appear similar in design as both feature the brand’s IMPACT 2.0 design language, the rear is completely different. The Safari is not only longer but slightly taller as well. The length and height allow an extra row of seats good enough for adult passengers. The Safari also comes with a chrome grille with the Tri-Arrow design, a chrome ‘Humanity Line’ below the grille, chrome underlines the headlamps and a silver applique around it, an X-shaped front bumper, silver skid plate effect, 18-inch machined alloy wheels, chrome window lining, signature Safari roof rails, wraparound LED taillamps and a silver applique on the rear that features faux exhaust pipes.
The Tata Safari features a soft-touch dashboard with a silver ‘Humanity Line’ and an Ashwood finish wooden applique on the fascia as well as Oyster White seat upholstery. Complementing the premium look and feel is the IRA-Connected 8.8-inch infotainment system with a JBL speaker system, 7-inch semi-digital instrumentation, steering wheel with controls, Majestic Dome panoramic sunroof with Global closure feature, mood lighting etc.
Powering the Tata Safari is a BS6 emission-compliant 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo-diesel motor that pumps out 170 Hp of power and 350 Nm of torque. The engine comes with the option of a 6-speed manual transmission as well as a 6-speed torque converter type automatic gearbox. While the D8 platform is capable of a four-wheel-drive, the Tata Safari only comes with a front-wheel-drive architecture.
