Tata recently revealed the all-new Punch micro SUV in India. The brand had revealed the concept study of the Tata Punch at the Auto Expo 2020 in Delhi last year. At the biennial event, the auto major showcased the HBX concept, which later became the Tata Punch, all kitted up with off-road goodies. The concept car displayed at the Auto Expo 2020 featured a rugged bash plate, knobby tyres, a rooftop carrier etc.
This led us to believe that the micro SUV will come with mild off-roading features. The brand has released another teaser that reveals that the Tata Punch can traverse over “Multiple Terrains”. The teaser also reveals that the Tata Punch will get “Multiple Modes”.
While the production-spec version of the HBX concept does carry over a lot of design details, except for the specialist off-road features such as knobby tyres, the rooftop carrier and the robust front skid plate. However, the new Multiple Mode feature on the Tata Punch will allow the SUV to traverse over rough roads with ease. The brand has not yet revealed the specific modes that will be available with the Punch. But the teaser does reveal that the car will be able to drive over multiple terrains. We speculate that the Tata Punch will also come with the next-generation Multi-Drive Mode 2.0 that pairs with the ESP (Electronic Stability Programme) and comes with – Road, Off-Road and Wet Surface modes.
Tata has not yet revealed the full specifications of the Tata Punch. However, reports suggest that underpinning the Punch is the ALFA (Agile Light Flexible Advanced) architecture. The ALFA platform made its debut with the Tata Altroz in the Indian market. We speculate that the Punch will also come with the powertrain that currently does duty on the Altroz hot hatchback. The Altroz comes with a 1.2-litre petrol engine. The naturally-aspirated engine produces 83 Hp of power and 113 Nm of torque. While the Altroz also comes with 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine and a 1.5-litre turbo-diesel, the brand may not offer the engines on the Punch.
