2021 Renault Kiger makes global debut, rivals Nissan Magnite

French car manufacturer Renault has revealed the all-new Kiger B-SUV in the Indian market. The Kiger was introduced at a world premiere event held in Delhi, India and the new compact SUV is expected to be launched soon in India as well as in the international market. The Renault Kiger is based on the CMFA+ platform which also underpins the Nissan Magnite produced under the Renault-Nissan partnership. 

In terms of design, the Renault Kiger is the result of the partnership between the Renault India design and the Corporate design teams in France. The Compact SUV features a bold front fascia with the brand’s new signature LED daytime running lights sitting flush with the bonnet, cubed LED headlamps mounted low on the front bumper, imposing chrome-accented grille design, a muscular bonnet, flared wheels arches with generous black claddings that confirms its  SUV status, 16-inch dual-tone machine-finished ally wheels,  functional roof rails, aero rooflines, an integrated wing-style spoiler mounted on the tailgate, C-shaped LED taillights, and a sharply raked rear windscreen. The Renault Kiger will be offered in 6 colour options with two dual-tone colour options. 

On the inside, the Renault Kiger is expected to feature a multilayered dashboard, a centrally mounted touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration, a high-mount central console, wireless smartphone charging, digital instrumentation, control mounted steering wheel, automatic climate control air conditioning, contoured seats and safety features such as driver and passenger airbags, ABS+EBD and Electronic Stability Program as standard. The compact SUV also offers generous seating for 5 passengers including the driver, best in class knee room, 405 litres of boot space and 29-litres of in-cabin storage space.

The Renaut Kiger is powered by a 1.0-litre three-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine that produces 100 PS of power and 160 Nm of torque matched to a 5-speed manual gearbox as well as an optional 5-step CVT automatic. Optionally the Kiger also comes with a 1.0-litre naturally-aspirated three-cylinder petrol engine that produces 72 PS of power and 96 Nm of torque matched to a 5-speed manual transmission and a 5-speed Easy-R AMT (Automated Manual Transmission). The Renault Kiger measures 3,991 mm in length, 1,750 mm in width, 1,600 mm in height, comes with a wheelbase of 2,500 mm and a high ground clearance of 205 mm. 

The Renault Kiger will be produced at the brand’s Oragadam production facility in Chennai, which has an installed capacity to manufacture 4.80 lakh units per year. The brand has also announced that it has opened more than 500 sales and 475+ service touchpoints in India to cater to the demand of the much anticipated Kiger.
