Mercedes-Benz has launched the new S-Class in the Indian market at the price of INR 2.17 crore ex-showroom. The new Mercedes-Benz S-Class comes with the internal designation W223. The Mercedes-Benz S-Class will come with both petrol and diesel engine options. The Mercedes-Benz S-Class comes in two variants – S450 4Matic and S450d 4Matic. The brand also announced that more than half of the initial 150 CBU (Completely Built-Up) units for the Indian market have already been booked. The brand will be assembling the 2021 Mercedes-Benz S-Class at the brand’s state-of-the-art Chakan manufacturing line near Pune.
The Mercedes-Benz S-Class S400d 4Matic (Diesel) comes with a price tag of INR 2.17 Crore ex-showroom. The S450 4Matic, the petrol avatar, comes with a price tag of INR 2.19 Crore ex-showroom. Mercedes-Benz announced that the luxury saloon would come with a service package starting at INR 82,900 for two years. The service packages are extendable up to 10 years and unlimited km.
The Mercedes-Benz S-Class is the brand’s flagship sedan. The car is now in its seventh generation, and Mercedes-Benz claims that the S-Class is the ‘World’s Best Car.’ Like its predecessors, the new-generation model continues to set new benchmarks in design innovation and performance and luxury. The new S-Class comes with a short front overhang, a long wheelbase, and a balanced rear overhang. This gives the luxury sedan a classical design and proportions.
Mercedes-Benz has also worked extensively so that the 5320mm long, 2130mm wide, and 1503mm tall sedan can slide through the air. The S-Class comes with a drag coefficient of just 0.22 Cd making its one of the most aerodynamic cars in the limousine segment. The S-Class is not known for its exterior design but for what features the brand offers on the inside.
The new Mercedes-Benz S-Class comes with a lot more digitalisation than the predecessor. And digitalisation leads to more personalisation. The car comes with numerous innovations in terms of interaction, protection and driver assistance. The brand boasts that the S-Class can be experienced through all four senses of seeing, feeling, hearing and smelling. The new S-Class’s central component is the new second-generation MBUX (Mercedes-Benz User Interface) system.
On the inside, the car features five large displays with OLED technology. The displays offer enhanced personalisation options and intuitive operation. The new MBUX system also comes with a dialogue-capable voice assistant. In the new generation, the user can also perform certain functions without the activation keyword “Hey Mercedes”.
The new Mercedes-Benz S-Class comes with a 3216mm wheelbase for roomy interiors. The car comes with an improved front and rear seat, including comfort-related dimensions. The dashboard and centre console appears to come with a floating design. The front seats come with 19 motors that make it easier for the occupants to find the most comfortable seating position. The seats on the S-Class also get ten massage functions with vibrating motors.
The S-Class will fulfil the brand’s vision of accident-free driving. Therefore, the new S-Class comes with numerous extended driving assistance systems. The driver assistance systems can not only detect a dangerous situation but also respond to impending collisions as the situation demands. The brand has also employed improved environmental sensors, which are helpful while manoeuvring the saloon at slow speeds and parking.
The Mercedes-Benz S-Class comes with features such as Digital Light headlamps, an active ambient lighting system with 250 LEDs, the rear-axle steering with up to 4.5-degree movement, flush door handles, 20-inch AMG alloy wheels and exterior trim, vertical OLED touchscreen infotainment display, 12.3-inch instruments cluster, Burmester Sound System with 4D surround sound with 30 loudspeakers and 8 resonators, multi-zone air-conditioning, Nappa leather seats with diamond cross upholstery, frontal airbag for rear-seat passenger etc.
The 2021 Mercedes-Benz S-Class comes with an OM 656 3.0-litre in-line six-cylinder diesel engine that makes 330 Hp of power and 700 Nm of torque. The M256 3.0-litre in-line six-cylinder petrol motor makes 367 Hp of power and 500 Nm of torque. Both the petrol and diesel engine models can reach a top speed of 250 kmph.
The Mercedes-Benz S-Class is offered in five colour options – Designo Diamond White, Onyx Black, Anthracite Blue, Rubellite Red and Emerald Green.
