The next generation XUV500 is scheduled to be launched in the first quarter of 2021. The test mules of the SUV has been spotted a lot of times while being tested on the public roads. As per some reports, the latest generation XUV500 could have a host of new advanced electronic features.
The ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems), which is offered with the MG Gloster could also be included in the next generation XUV500. Some spy shots of the car revealed that it is equipped with a front-facing camera placed on the top of the windshield, a radar sensor on the front bumper and other sensors could include adaptive cruise control, frontal collision warning, autonomous emergency braking and lane departure warning.
The most talked feature is the radar system coupled with autonomous braking which is help to detect potholes and tackle them. Mahindra & Mahindra could also be testing a 3D panoramic vision to aid the driver when reversing. Some more features are also being tested like an eyelid tracking system which will pop up a message notifying the driver to take a break, climate control which will cool the cabin as per the preferences set by the passengers via a paired smartphone.
The next generation XUV500 is likely to be powered by a four-cylinder 2.0-litre mStallion T-GDi turbocharged petrol motor and a 2.0-litre diesel motor. The gearboxes which could be offered are a 6-speed manual and an automatic transmission. All the features mentioned might not make into the production-spec model although if included many would be first-in-segment features. There are rumours that the next generation XUV500 could be on parallel sale with the current generation XUV500.
The current generation XUV500 is offered in 7 variants and the prices start from INR 13.58 lakhs and go up to INR 19.06 Lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). The chief competitors in the segments are Tata Harrier, MG Hector Plus and few of them are scheduled to be launched in the future like Tata Gravitas, Hyundai Creta (7-seater).
