Mahindra is testing the all-new Scorpio in the majestic Himalayas and the SUV has been spotted in a convoy full of new Mahindra Thars and the next-generation XUV500. The Scorpio in the spy pictures appears to be in the final production avatar and the SUV is likely to be undergoing altitude tests near the high-altitude Himalayan resort town of Manali.
The test mule of the Scorpio was completely covered in camouflage wraps but key details of the SUV have been revealed. To start with, the new Scorpio appears to be larger in size than the outgoing model and packs more features such as LED headlamps and taillamps. The SUV retains its butch styling and features a new radiator grille, sleeker headlamps with new LED DRL signatures on the bumper, new combination tail lamps, a slightly raked rear windscreen, a shark fin antenna, roof rails, a roof-integrated spoiler with a high mount stop lamp and rear wash wipe.
Next to the Mahindra Thar which was also the part of the convoy, the Mahindra Scorpio appears to be taller, wider and of course longer than the three-door lifestyle SUV. The test mule of the Scorpio also had panels on the bonnet to hide its actual shape which could be more of a clamshell design with raised ridges. However, the SUV now misses out on the hallmark hood scoop. The lower part of the bumper integrates fog lamps and comes with a wide air dam with a mesh grille.
The new Mahindra Scorpio is also expected to come with roomier interiors along with new comfort and convenience features such as a new touchscreen infotainment system with the latest generation telematics. The SUV is also expected to updated with features such as wireless smartphone charging, driving modes, cruise control, sunroof and seating options for 7 or 8 passengers but all seats are expected to be oriented in the forward-facing direction.
The Mahindra Scorpio is expected to be powered by a new BS6-compliant 2.0-litre mStallion turbo petrol engine 150 Bhp of power and 300 Nm / 320 Nm of torque on the Mahindra Thar and a 2.2-litre turbo-diesel engine that makes around 140 Bhp of power and 320 Nm of torque. Both engines are expected to come with manual and automatic transmission options.
