Mahindra has introduced a new variant of the Scorpio. The new trim named S3+ will be the entry-level offering from Mahindra. With the introduction of this base variant, the starting price of Scorpio has been reduced by INR 50,000 and thus the range starts from INR 11.99 lakhs (ex-showroom).
The base variant of the SUV will come equipped with dual front airbags, ABS with EBD, rear parking sensors, power steering with tilt adjustment, front charging point, LED tail lamps, power windows and more. Though there are few useful kits which the S3+ variant of the Scorpio misses out like alloy wheels, auto-door lock, central locking, central lamp, side and rear footstep, rear demister, one-touch lane indicator and bottle and cup holders. This particular variant will be available with the 7-seat, 8-seat and 9-seat configuration (side-facing third-row).
Powering the Scorpio S3+ is a BS6 compliant 2.2-litre mHawk diesel engine which produces 118 BHP of power and 280 Nm of torque. The gearbox option is a 5-speed manual. The higher variants of the SUV feature the same engine in a different state of tune which makes 140 BHP of power and 320 Nm of torque. The gearbox is a 6-speed manual.
Mahindra launched the BS-6 compliant Scorpio back in April 2020 with some minor updates. The SUV came with the S5 trim as the base variant, dropping the S3 variant which was the base variant in the outgoing model, but now again Mahindra has decided to bring in the base trim with a slightly new name, S3+. The introduction of the in-car infotainment system which is now compatible with both Android Auto and Apple CarPlay was the key upgrade to the BS-6 compliant Scorpio and this will be only available with the S9 and S11 trims.
There are a lot of rumours doing the rounds and it is very likely that Mahindra will bring in a new updated version of the Scorpio. As of today, there are a lot of spy shots of the test mules floating on the internet which confirms that Mahindra is readying itself for the launch of the all-new Scorpio very soon.
