Hyundai has teased the race-track capable Hyundai i20 N for high-performance ‘N-thusiasts’. The Hyundai i20 N draws inspiration from the i20 WRC rally car and comes with bespoke highlights and performance-oriented features along with exclusive engine performance and dynamic technologies, in-line with Hyundai’s high-performance portfolio in Europe, the i30 N and the i30 Fastback N.
On the outside, the Hyundai i20 N is based on the Sensuous Sportiness design language giving the i20 N a powerful appearance with large air intakes on the front for the enhanced engine and brake cooling. The front apron comes with a geometric design, a sharp splitter, black inserts on the triangular foglamp area, rounded wheel arches, 18-inch alloy wheels, finished in matte grey, N-branded brake callipers finished in red, sporty side sills, distinctive rear spoiler enhancing the aerodynamic efficiency. The i20 N also comes with Performance Blue livery exclusive to Hyundai N models, and Phantom Black roof for an optional two-tone style. The livery comes with Red accents to further emphasize the brand’s motorsport DNA.
While Hyundai is still tight-lipped about the engine specifications the i20 N is expected to be powered by a 1.6-litre turbocharged petrol mill that produces more than 200 Hp of power. The engine is likely to be married to a 6-speed manual transmission powering the front wheels through a limited-slip differential. The Hyundai i30 N and the Veloster also feature an 8-speed DCT gearbox which is likely to trickle down to the i20 N in the near future.
Recently, Hyundai unveiled the 2021 i20 N Line with a standard 1.2-litre MPI engine that makes 84 PS of power and a 1.0-litre TGDi (turbo-petrol) engine that comes in two states of tunes and produces 100 PS and a 120 PS output options. The all-new i20 N Line will also be offered with a 48-volt mild-hybrid system to improve fuel efficiency offered as standard on the 120PS
In the international market, the Hyundai i20 N will lock horns with the Volkswagen Polo GTI and the Ford Fiesta ST.
