Rumours around the Honda CBR 600RR have been circulating the internet for quite some time now and a media report now suggests that the brand is likely to launch a Final Edition model of the Honda CBR 600RR which has been in constant production since 2003 in the international market.
The brand has been upgrading the middleweight supersport bike until 2017 when the brand stopped upgrading the motorcycle and is available for sale only in some select markets. It was being rumoured in the past that the brand will restart production on the Honda CBR600RR and will also bring a more powerful CBR 600RR-R model by 2021.
The Honda CBR600RR-R is rumoured to be styled with design cues from the 2021 CBR1000RR-R Fireblade and is likely to feature the aero winglets from the elder sibling. But unconfirmed reports have suggested that before that the brand could be planning to introduce a final edition model to commemorate the bike’s overall success.
The final edition model could be styled with design cues from the CBR 1000RR-R but is likely to retain its hallmark under seat exhaust system unlike the side slung unit on the elder sibling. Reports also suggest that the brand is likely to upgrade the engine to match the current emission standards and extract a little bit of extra power and torque using new technologies and material engineering.
The Honda CBR 600RR is also rumoured to feature a new electronics package borrowed from the CBR1000RR-R with features such as a 6-axis IMU (Inertial Measuring Unit), cornering ABS, lean-angle sensitive traction control, wheelie control, quick shifter, selectable riding modes and race telemetry data acquisition.
At the time of its launch back in 2003, the Honda CBR 600RR was a technological marvel and benefitted from the brand’s experience in MotoGP and borrowed coveted technologies such as Dual Stage Fuel Injection system, Unit Pro-Link suspension and came with advanced ‘Hollow Fine Die-Cast’ technology on its chassis.
The end-of-line Honda CBR 600RR was powered by a 599cc four-cylinder, four-stroke, four-valve per cylinder DOHC engine that produced around 120 hp of power and 60 Nm of torque matched to a 6-speed gearbox. The final edition is rumoured to use this same engine with slight tweaks around it.
