2021 BS6 compliant BMW G310 R & G310 GS spotted testing in India

In the first half of the Calendar Year 2020, BMW Motorrad’s two entry-level motorcycles the BMW G310 R and the G310 GS facelifts were spotted testing in the international market, speculated to have been upgraded with a Euro5-spec powertrain along with minor cosmetic upgrades. Both the bikes are not so popular in the Indian market, with only 1024 units sold in Q1 of CY2020, but with prices starting at INR 2.99 lakhs ex-showroom, for the outgoing BS4 version, it was one of the most affordable BMW’s that can be acquired at a relatively low price tag but is still out of reach for the average Joe.

Now, the German premium automaker has been working on the G310 siblings, to keep up with the new stringent Euro5/BS6 emission norms, evident from the latest spy shots that have been circulating over media platforms in India. Yes, according to the images, BMW is testing the BS6 upgraded G310 R and the G310 GS here in India, leading us to believe that the brand will be launching the 310cc motorcycles in the BS6 upgraded avatar soon.

According to spy shots, the design changes appear subtle and cosmetic. The BS6 version of the G310 R appears to get a new LED headlamp with slightly revised cuts, crease lines and a subtle changes on the fuel tank. The G310 GS also features a new LED headlamp a slightly revised beak, side panels and is expected to retain its cycle parts from the BS4 iteration. The major change will be to its engine and exhaust that is likely to be revised to conform to Euro5/BS6 emission standards speculated to be achieved using a closed-loop 3-way catalytic converter system.

Both motorcycles share the 313cc, single-cylinder, reverse-inclined, liquid-cooled, four valves, fuel-injected DOHC powertrain that produces 34 Hp of power and 28 Nm of torque coupled to a 6-speed gearbox with a mechanically operated wet multi-plate clutch. While the TVS Apache RR310 shares the same mill that has already been upgraded to BS6 standards in the Indian market, the bike is offered with ride-by-wire throttle, riding modes, a full-colour instruments panel and Bluetooth connectivity features. How many of these features make it to the G310 siblings is still in question and unconfirmed reports suggest that the BS6 upgraded bikes could get a new slipper assist clutch.

The brand is expected to launch the new upgraded BS6 emission compliant G310 R and the G310 GS in India in the second half of 2020 priced closely to the BS4 predecessors that came with a  at INR 2.99 lakh and INR 3.49 lakh ex-showroom respectively.
