2021-22 Volkswagen Polo will share chassis with Taigun & Skoda Kushaq

Volkswagen Polo has been using the same old design for close to a decade now in the Indian market, nevertheless, the brand is able to sell around 1,500 units of the Polo every month, and the credit goes to its timeless design. But now the brand is expected to update the age-old design and replace the hatchback in India with the latest Polo that is being sold in the international market.

But doing that would certainly increase the prices of the Polo and being a price-sensitive market the successor would not be able to regain the same popularity. But now as the segment matures and with the introduction of the Hyundai i20 which is priced as much as INR 11 lakh ex-showroom, the German brand too, is likely to bring the next-generation hot hatchback to the Indian market.

The brand has also found a way that could lower the cost of the next-generation Polo. The latest Polo in the international is based on the MQB platform and the Polo for the Indian market could be underpinned by the MQB-A0-IN which will be a localised version of the MQB chassis, which is expected to lower the cost of the new Polo. The MQB-A0-IN is also shared by the upcoming Volkswagen Taigun and the Skoda Kushaq. The car is also expected to share its underpinnings with the next-generation Vento.

The new platform is also expected to be optimised for electrification which means the next-generation Polo could come with the new eTSI technology that is being offered on the Volkswagen Golf. This will also help the brand make the next Polo future proof as the emission norms get more stringent. The car could also get ACT (Active Cylinder Technology) to improve efficiency and lower emissions.

The brand is also speculated to be working on a 100% electric model that is expected to be showcased at the next Auto Expo in 2022.
