2020 Toyota Innova Crysta is SAFE! Scores 5-star safety rating in ASEAN NCAP crash test

ASEAN NCAP has tested the 2020 Toyota Innova Crysta and awarded the popular MPV a full 5-star rating. It is important to note that the tested Innova Crysta is the pre-facelift version, the successor of which has emerged in spy shots recently. The Innova Crysta that was tested originated from Indonesia and similar models are sold in Brunei, Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar and Vietnam. 

The Toyota Innova Crysta received a total of 45.90 points for adult safety, 21.51 points for child safety and 15.28 points for safety equipment scoring a total of 5-Stars. The Variant tested was the 2020 Innova Crysta 2.0S MT which weighs 1698 kgs. The variant is fitted with Driver Airbag, Front Passenger Airbag, Knee Airbag, Seatbelt Retractor and Load Limiter on both the driver and front passenger seats and active safety features such as Seat Belt Reminder for both driver and front passenger, ABS (Anti-Lock Brakes) and ESC (Electronic Stability Control) as standard. Some countries also have Side Airbag and Curtain Airbag as standard on all variants. 

In the Indian market, the Toyota Innova Crysta comes with safety features such as a GOA (Global Outstanding Assessment) body, driver, front passenger & driver’s knee airbags, antilock brakes, brake assist, electronic brake-force distribution, three-point seatbelts with pretensioner and force limiters, three-point seatbelts for all passengers, reverse parking sensors, clutch start on manual variants, seat belt warning, door ajar warning, anti-theft system, emergency brake signal and ISOFIX & tether anchor for child restraint systems as standard. The brand has recently made available new safety features such as Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) and Hill Start Assist (HSA) as a standard part of the pack. 

While the Innova Crysta in the ASEAN market is powered by 2.0-litre petrol or a 2.4-litre diesel powertrain the Toyota Innova Crysta in India is powered by a BS6 standard 2.7-litre four-cylinder 16-valve DOHC Dual VVT petrol engine that produces 166 PS of power and 245 Nm of torque matched to a 5-speed manual and an optional 6-speed sequential-shift automatic gearbox and 2.4-litre four-cylinder diesel engine a Variable Nozzle Turbocharger, that produces 150 PS of power and 343 Nm of torque matched to a 5-speed manual gearbox and 360 Nm of torque with the 6-speed sequential-shift automatic transmission
