Currently what we have on sale in India, is the 3rd generation of the Outlander SUV. Now, Mitsubishi has started working on the 4th generation of this model and road testing has begun on international soil. Mitsubishi is part of the Renault-Nissan alliance since 2016, and the Outlander is a promising project for the SUV segment, of course with many components expected to be shared for better economies of scale.
Although heavily camouflaged, the 2020 Mitsubishi Outlander will continue with the X pattern front fascia with the grille expected to house a healthy dose of chrome. Spyshots reveal that the new Outlander will have LED DRLs placed around the bonnet shutline while the headlamps will be mounted below on the bumpers and a mesh grille for the air dam in between the headlamps. The new model looks taller than the current model, but is still expected to be a 5-seater SUV. The Outlander which was spotted testing however looked more finished, and an official unveil could happen by the end of this year or by early 2020.
Currently, the Mitsubishi Outlander in India is powered by a 2.4L MIVEC, DOHC petrol engine which produces 167 PS of power @ 6000 RPM and 222 Nm of torque @ 4100 RPM matched to a CVT automatic gearbox with paddle shifts. The Outlander comes with 4WD system with Auto, Eco & 4WD Lock modes. The SUV promises to do a 0-100 kmph sprint in 11.1 seconds.
Mitsubishi in India isn’t really doing very well. With poor dealer presence and cars which don’t really excite in a segment which is super aggressive, the brand is failing to find buyers. Although Mitsubishi India has an all-SUV line-up, still, the brand recall is nearly negligible.
